Who here has read the book Freakonomics?

Just bought it yesterday at Costco, had heard of it of course and it seemed interesting so I thought I'd give it a read.

So far one of the most interesting books I've ever read, and I have a pretty decent library in my office. I just read what school teachers have in common with sumo wrestlers. And I've read how selling bagels can teach you alot about the morality of people.

Next chapter is going to compare the KKK with real estate agents, and then onto why drug dealers tend to live with their moms.

Brilliant book so far.

I read it a while back. Some interesting theories but not sure how well they actually stand up (not that I researched any of them any further lol). Legalising abortion cutting crime 20yrs later was pretty interesting though.

Great book. Read it ages ago.

Dcat 08-31-2009 01:07 PM

Looks good. That's one I'm going to put on my reading list.

tigermtb 08-31-2009 02:08 PM

Read it a few years ago, very good book.
The author has other books on marketing and promotion.

u-Bob 08-31-2009 02:10 PM

<---- read it.

mynameisjim 08-31-2009 02:11 PM

It's a good book to make you look at things from a different angle and hopefully you can start to apply that to other things.

You have to take some of the examples with a grain of salt though. It's more about the concepts then the facts IMHO but that doesn't take away anything from the book.

Picked up Super Freakonomics the other day.. so far a great read. Best topic is why street hookers are like department store santas, and why the cost of a BJ has gone down so much in recent years.

Jayvis 11-20-2009 09:29 AM

Just bought it but haven't opened it up yet... I've heard nothing but good things, though.
