Lets say there is a really cool name that you want but the .com is taken, but the .net is free, would you register the .net

.com is king.

You could buy the .net if you wanted to, but you'd be sending some free traffic to the .com.

That being said, I have a couple .net without owning the .com.

The hun taught me .net can work. Personally I wouldn't bother.

I usually always say to search for a .com is possible, but I've seen some very nice .nets available lately that I think are worth using.

I know a girl who built a massive .org site and sold it for close to 7 figues to a media company.
she didn't let no .com or .net stop her.

.net is the 2nd choice.. then .org

not really... maybe only for seo purpose... not for actual business... I am quite sure I would lose a nice bit of traffic because of many would type address with .com instead of .net

.com but better use net if is the .com domain used.

I always try to use .com domains, but if it's very cool name I wouldn't mind to buy .net.
