How well do you hide your kids from your work?

I never load up galleries or anything that I know is going to show something explicit when my wife and kid is around, but there's been a few times that I've left a GFY thread open, then realised someone's avatar is showing a naked chick with her legs spread... oops.

How well do you keep yourself in check when family is around?

FrozenJag 09-01-2009 12:09 AM

No kids here but my fiancee I keep things very clean.

I dont leave anything up, not even icq.

Its more of a respect thing, since she is not down with the industry.

CYF 09-01-2009 12:15 AM

No kids here. The girl I'm dating is totally cool with it, I'll update blogs with her around, she looks through content I buy and helps me pick some good ones, stuff like that.

It's pretty cool actually :thumbsup

lopez 09-01-2009 12:19 AM

rather hide work from kids, than kids from work. could probably get in trouble for that.

Loki 09-01-2009 06:19 AM

I TRY to only work when the monkey is asleep, but she's only here every other week.

If she IS here, she knows to NOT come into my office.

My 'wife to be' digs my work and most times will hang in the office on one of my old machines, or sit and watch me work.

Ummm all work remains in office with a locked door and when guests or kids come around no one goes in office, fairly simple.

czarina 09-01-2009 06:29 AM

my son can't open the door to my new office (he still doesnt have enough strength to push the lever), so I'm covered in that aspect.

But I admit in the recent past he saw a couple things on my screen. Nothing terrible, just a girl naked a few months back and recently two girls kissing. After the last incident he asked me if girls could marry other girls. Oops!

ContentPimp 09-01-2009 07:23 AM

No kids yet, but when I'll have one or two, work will stay at the office...

themadwriter 09-01-2009 07:33 AM

not permitted in my office under any circumstances!!!!!

Matyko 09-01-2009 07:38 AM

my daughter is 2.5 yrs old, she is able to open the door and come into my working room, so I have to be careful.

I fade my monitors to dark with a keyboard shortcut if necessary or when I leave the room. She can't turn it on - and if she thinks the computers are off she is losing interest in staying in this room... So no worries ... yet...
But I know with time it will go tough and I need to move to an office.

tranza 09-01-2009 08:30 AM

Well, don't have kids! hehehehe

JayDeeZee 09-01-2009 08:37 AM

My daughter is only 1. I'm starting to think what I'll do in a few years.

I'll start with a lock on the door and a rule about not going into the office. Maybe I'll arrange the room in a way that will make it difficult for her to come around the desk.

Good idea with the keyboard shortcut.

Jimmy Rock 09-01-2009 08:37 AM

very well, don't have any

Vicious_B 09-01-2009 08:47 AM

My kids are 14 and 16 now. I don't work from home so its not that huge of a deal. They do know some of what I do is "grown up related" so they are pretty good at respecting I need my privacy when I am working from home

I've never understood how this could work. Wont she always have a little resentment since she dislikes your job?

rowan 09-01-2009 06:41 PM

I work mainly with traffic trading and coding tweaks so I rarely have to load even my own sites (my wife doesn't believe this, she thinks I'm looking at pr0n all day :) ). When my daughter was younger and not yet mobile I figured I'd just have a closed door office policy, but I can't imagine doing that now... she doesn't bug me constantly (which would affect my work) but it's nice when my little girl comes in occasionally to say hello.

Next hurdle is when she knows how to read and she wonders why I have a lot of "teen" or "sex" domains listed on my screen... :1orglaugh I'll have to be more careful again...

My wife resents the work I do, although she's not constantly badgering me about it. The "topic" comes up every few months though. She wants me to get a 9-5 job, I tell her every time that (a) I have no formal qualifications or references from recent employers (my most recent was in 1995...), (b) I don't work well with consistent hours, and (c) does she like the house we live in? :1orglaugh

Well I must admit that its not been an easy road at times. We have "rules and guidelines" that I must follow for her to be ok with it. Its not really a matter of her "allowing" me to do it, but more so her being able to stomach the fact that im in the adult industry. Its hard for her to think its a real business and not a bunch of nasty perverts. Although there are many perverts, the serious people are all business which includes myself.

For example im not in teen niche, I dont work in any niches that are abusive or seriously degrading, I dont leave things up on my computer screen for her too see, etc.

Its gotten easier the last couple years as we both grow up and she matures further, she understands more now that making money is very important and that it sure beats the 9 to 5 struggle that most everybody has to deal with. Another thing is oviously that I cant ever even think about shooting content, or even going to webmaster shows, but I dont have a whole lot of interest in that anyway. Zero as far as shooting goes. Im just here for the business, I could care less about the actual porn. Which I think she finally really does understand.

So anyway, maybe it makes a little more sense now how it works out. :)

IllTestYourGirls 09-01-2009 07:23 PM

My four year old has her own computer and my work never touches that.

When I work its in my office with the door closed. The screen can not be seen when the door opens. The computer is password protected. If I am working outside my office it is on my laptop and there is little chance of her ever seeing the screen.

My fiancee knows what I do, doesnt mind it and wants me too keep doing it, she even helps at times. :banana

SilentKnight 09-01-2009 07:35 PM

Our 16-yr-old has her own computer downstairs (with adultsite parental locks) - and all the rest in the house/office are passworded...she has no access.

If she's in the vicinity of the office, I make sure there's nothing adult on the screens.

LOL. Thats too funny. What did you tell him?

Mr Pheer 09-02-2009 12:24 AM

My kid isnt allowed into my office for any reason.

rowan 09-02-2009 02:03 AM

My screen can be seen from the door. I'll hopefully be rearranging my whole office soon for a bit more "privacy"

krimhilda 09-02-2009 02:43 AM

I work from home and my son (5 years old) come into my room so I'm very careful. He doesn't touch my computer because he has his own notebook

Mike Dutch 09-02-2009 02:44 AM

get 2 pc's , the one you work on make sure it has a screensaver which goes on in 3 minutes and needs a pass to be activated again, problem solved.

CunningStunt 09-02-2009 03:02 AM

Good question. My 2 year old walked into my home office the other day, and I unfortunately had an image open of an Asian woman with her kit off, nothing hardcore. My little one shouts out "mummy". Most embarrassing.

I always turn off the screen now or keep the door closed. It's getting an increasing problem. Almost to the extent I've thought of chucking this all in and going mainstream permanently, rather than an "aside".

Ross 09-02-2009 03:49 AM

Don't have kids, don't want any but if I was ever unfortunate enough to have them there would be ground rules. 1. Don't ever come into my office unless I tell them to. Then of course there would be a lock on the door etc since all kids are nosey little fuckers anyway.
