You have two options with facebook you can either pay per impression or per click and you can also choose diff countrys that you want your add displayed on. You can also select keywords. So I guess this woud have some kind of impact on the outcome of the ad. Im gonna let it run for a month then I will let you know if it was worth the money

grumpy 09-07-2009 08:07 AM

It works similar to google you pay a certian amount per click or impression the more you pay the more clicks/impressions you get

slapass 09-07-2009 08:12 AM

I did not see good results. The CTR is horrible and it is very hard to control the clicks a day.

You can set a budget for the amount of cash you want to spend for clicks/impressions per day so that should cut off the clicks when your budget is up. Unless it dont work ..lol

This is the first time i am trying it out so Im a noob at this

Getting ads approved is a royal pain in the ass... You can submit the same ad and get rejected 20 times and get it approved the 21st time. With no changes.

I don't know who the hell is doing ad revisions over there.

Do you mean for a mainstream ad or an adult ad cause I have seen dating ads on Facebook and was wondering how the hell they got them approved although they were more sexy than adult

Mine is still pending but its for a mainstream site so hopefully there wont be any probs..but time will tell I guess

EDIT

I tell a lie its now running they have approved the ad ..that was pretty quick really I submited the ad not even an hour ago

Ok here are some very quick results this does seem to be working

Out of 814 impressions I have 3 new fan members on the Facebook account made up for the website and 4 new members signed up to the site coming directly from Facebook .. This is looking pretty good atm

halfpint 09-07-2009 09:55 AM

My ad stats say Im spending £0.15 per click, bear in mind this is in GPB so its around $0.24 per click...mmm

Gordon1 09-07-2009 10:14 AM

I wont to know the result in the and of month

qxm 09-07-2009 10:21 AM

I'd much rather spend that money in adwords or YSM

My way of thinking is that you shouldent have to keep on spending money on Facebook like you would using adwords, because once you have a decent amount of member fans on your website facebook account they should refer other members just by the way facebook actually works on member profiles/ posts. Its kinda like a chain reaction so If this works I will save money in the long run and not have to keep on paying for adwords YSM ect

mmm that theory certainly sounds interesting, will have to try it out for myself. I was thinking tho that you were after some conversions/roi right off the bat which is why I said I'd rather go with ADW/YSM ......

Yeah I know what you mean and I wouldent use Fcebook for conversions/roi off the bat I dont think that would work

I am after free members as the site is free to join, The conversions from free to paid members will happen at a later date. This is how these kinds of sites work

Whether this will work or not I have no idea but im sure gonna give it a good old bash :)

Yeah, I tried promoting some mainstream dating sites and the approval process seemed totally random. I got some ads rejected because the image was too "sexy" and then I looked at other ads and saw some that were much on the "adult" side of things than mine hehe...

That was a couple of months ago, I don't know if they updated their process.

Are you sending clicks to your profile and getting people to befriend you? I have always sent clicks straight to offers so that maybe the reason you got your ads approved quickly.

Just a guess, please keep us updated.

kektex 09-07-2009 02:31 PM

It's not money down the drain, I've seen people make serious money off FB ads.
It's not google, but it works.

I haven't had the patience to really try it though

latin 09-08-2009 02:38 PM

How is going your idea?

Paparazzi 09-08-2009 02:51 PM

good luck!
I heard ctr sucks big time. My guess: Facebook traffic=mostly young kids that avoid clicking ads. They want it all for free.

Thats what I say
I dont remember the last time I clicked a banner ad on myspace or any of those social sites.

Ok I ran an ad on Facebook for a little over a month

This is what I found

You get hundreds of thousands of impressions but the click thru ratio is pretty poor

Over the month the ad did generate users I got around 37 new free member signups coming directly from the ad on facebook over the month

For me I think the best way to use facebook as an ad tool is to send people to my facebook fanclub via a paid ad. When your fanclub has a good amount of members just cancel the ad and your facebook fanclub will generate both fanclub members and signups for the site. This wont happen overnight but it does work if you are in it for the long haul.

This was done for a mainstream site btw

At the end of the day facebook might work totaly different for somebody else with a different kind of site but this is how it worked out for me.

users area trained to ignore ads regardless how targeted, unless that changes almost everyone will lose money when they advertise in places where people are there for a different i.e. facebook myspace youtube etc, google is ads but the person is looking for you and even then its not easy to make it work (you gotta tweak etc).

yes very true ..To be honest I could most prob get more signups using reddit.. ect ..Most of the members on Facebook are socialising with friends family ect and not looking to join a site.
I also think that by building your facebook fanclub the people who do join have some kind of intrest in what you are trying to sell and you will end up with members that enjoy or want to be on your site and spend thier $$$
