Anybody ever hear of OutsourcingRoom?

This morning I received an e-mail to my personal account thanking me for signing up to OutsourcingRoom, providing me with a username and a password. The username is a username that I would actually use, but I did not sign up for this service.

Anybody hear of them? My only guess is that eLance sold my information.

Fuck that sucks. And if Elance actually did that, shame on them. I would ask them how the hell they got a hold of your username.

this happened to me as well... at first i thought it was one of my partners partners doing this to show me a demo.

it would make sense that it was elance... i've only used that place one time and have used no others. so i would guess that's where it originated.

I just checked my login for eLance. Same username. Same e-mail.

I e-mailed them and here was the reply:

Thank you for your email. We apologize for the inconvenience. Elance is not associated with this company and no, we did not give or sell your account information to them.
Unfortunately, this website seems to be the source of a security breach earlier with Elance. Elance sent out the details of this attack to our users earlier this summer.
In case you were not aware of the issue, we have enclosed the information here:
The attackers accessed a user data table that contained contact information -- specifically name, email address, telephone number, city location and Elance username. The table that was attacked contained no personal financial information.
This incident did not involve any credit card, bank account, social security or tax ID numbers. The locations on our database where we store personal financial information are isolated and protected for extra protection. Furthermore, in the unlikely event that someone ever gained access to this financial data, it is stored in an encrypted form to ensure that it is unreadable to those without the secure encryption key.
Elance is working with the authorities to have the breached information removed. In the meantime, we recommend that you request the removal through the "Contact Us" on the outsourcingroom.com site also.
Please let us know if you have further questions or concerns.

I emailed outsourcingroom pointing out who they were spamming - internet
programmers and systems administrators. This while they are running their
site on an old unpatched WINDOWS box. Not exactly the best idea to
spam hackers.
