Fuck those cameras, we went there a while back and got sent a ticket for a rental. I thought these speed cameras were illegal and dangerous at night on the freeway? Those flashes are bright as hell.

punker barbie 09-11-2009 09:26 PM

wait you can get tickets in a rental? doh. i guess i should expect one soon.

Semi-Retired-Dave 09-11-2009 10:32 PM

And through Sept. 4 had issued more than 497,000 tickets. Of those, about 132,000 recipients had paid the fine of $165 plus a 10 percent penalty, netting the state more than $23 million.

That's insane.

if other cities worked like ours do, the city does not even get the money. they pre make a deal with some primary company that pays the city a set fee and covers the costs of the cameras, installation, reviewing, and such.

VeriSexy 09-12-2009 12:48 AM

haha pretty clever

StinkyPink 09-12-2009 12:52 AM

I hate speed traps

Jon Oso 09-12-2009 01:27 AM

A lot of the cameras now use a red flash which I'm pretty sure uses some sort of IR to capture images.

The ones that are still white flashes you can see from 1/2 mile away if not more.

If it doesn't cause you to crash from scaring the fuck out of you (even if it's someone else getting flashed) then it could potentially cause you to crash from looking around to see who it was that got flashed.

It's ridiculous. I've ignored every single ticket I've gotten through the mail since 2002.

John-ACWM 09-12-2009 04:26 AM

I think around here the city gets 25% of the money, the rest goes to the camera company

iTouch! 09-12-2009 08:30 AM

cherrylula 09-12-2009 12:26 PM

they installed red light cameras here, and then cut the yellow light time by a couple seconds. greedy government.

SeizeTheDomain 09-14-2009 06:06 PM

They have fixed camera locations in several places where I drive. I tend to wear a baseball cap anyway, so identifying me would be quite difficult for them. Case dismissed.

People have accused the cities of "shaving" milli seconds off the transit time normally allowed to drive through internsections, causing more people to complete the crossing in red.

"They're out staking out a guy with a monkey mask?" he said. "They watched him break the law and didn't do anything about it? If they had pulled him over, they could have pulled the mask off. It just proves photo radar is not about safety, it's about money."
Well, for his defence, this is a very valid point

themadwriter 09-15-2009 08:52 AM

shit if monkeys can smoke, why not let them drive!

As an AZ resident, I can tell you this state is fucked up in so many ways it's laughable.
