hosting $ question
What should I be paying for 200G server capacity with 4000 gigs per month bw?
Server with good customer support? |
RAM and processor is a more important stat than the drive size.

If the ram and processor was decent... What is the going rate for a dedicated server like this? I think its worth about $150 and anything more would be because of great customer service...

check out our current Fully Managed Amsterdam Server special:
http://www.gfy.com/fucking-around-and-business-discussion/926461-webair-amsterdam-special-win-passes.html We can get you setup with a similar server in NY as well if preferred and 200GB drive. Shoot me an email if you have any questions. |
You're using alexa to see how fast your server is?

Can't answer your question without the right details. Ask your host what's in your box. |
With the limited server info you provided I can tell you that a decent server with 10 megs and Awesome network and Support would run you about $130.00 to $150.00 per month. Now with specials and other factors that could go up or down a few bucks depending on the host. I would stick with a good host that has a Good long time reputation for quality and uptime and most important support. I have several servers and do much more BW than you mention but the prices I said are in the ball park with www.techiemedia.com

I do 4000 gigs monthly transfer which is way more then the highest listed add on that site for 99.95 / month. Also 4 gb of disk space... I'm interested in 200. Maybe I am mis-interpreting the abbreviations?? |

Dedicated servers are here http://www.techiemedia.com/dedicated.html You have to contact them with the amount of bandwidth you need to get a quote. They can also build custom servers according to your needs, you're not limited to the 3 servers on that page. |

It doesn't matter... my question is so simple and I just can't get a straight answer. I pay $335 right now for 200 gigs of disk size... 4000 gigs per month bw transfer... and a pretty fast box (hehe) Justin busts my balls and I do his... I'm sure that is justin by his 240208 number... All I want is some answers from webmasters... hosting IMO should not be so difficult to get some answers. |
It's already been explained that it's difficult to provide a "straight answer" because you haven't provided all the details. The specs of your server must be recorded somewhere - in a welcome email, in your hosts billing/control panel, etc...
In general though $335 does sound on the high side, unless you've got something like dual Xeons with 8GB of RAM and the 200GB is mirrored with hardware RAID. :thumbsup Chances are that's not the case though... How long have you had the server? That's another thing to consider. Many hosts will keep charging you the same amount every month even though the hardware has been depreciated and 100% written off and their other costs such as bandwidth have actually fallen. In this case it's not a bad idea to ask the host to renegotiate your plan, or provide an upgrade. Have you looked at their site lately? |
Further... I do not know exactly what 10 megs means. 10 megs to me means the size of a picture...

Yes, I think it is on the high side but have heard alot of nightmare stories about some other hosts. |

Dude Techiemedia did answer your questions and in fact they offered you the hosting you said you had for like 1/2 what you said you pay. Also you can trust that Techie is not some newbie host on the block, they have been around for many many years with a fantastic reputation. You can't go wrong with them mate.:2 cents::2 cents:
