Great Analytics Opensource.

I saw this in a thread yesterday (but can't find that thread today) about someone asking if anyone used PIWIK before. So I downloaded a copy, and last night tossed it up on a domain.

What a bad ass little piece of open source softare. Its molded from Google Analytics but is opensource (runs off your own server) and allows the ability to add modules or plugins to the system so its easily customizable. VERY EASY TO INSTALL AND GET GOING.

Haven't noticed much lag on the server its on right now, and none of the pages hang while its loaded, very crisp, excellent data, A+ for sure. With some little tweaks I could see this being very valueble to those of us who don't want to use Analytics for whatever reason.

this seems like a good piece of software and offhand i haven't read anything negative about it... i'll still use google analytics because i believe it has at least some sort of help in getting placed in google search results... how much weight this is given if any at all remains to be seen but at the end of the day at least it gives some good statistics ;)

don't go above 5 million pageviews with analytics unless you have an associated adwords account because google's terms say that's required if you surpass 5m views but I don't know how hard they enforce that.

Nice PR 10 :)

Does this software read server logs and analyses them, or do you need to put a code into your html / php files to track traffic. Would be interesting if this does the same thing as awstats, with better display..

So you can modify it for your own uses or develop it yourself? I pooped a little, but no bricks...

Seems like other stat programs [cystats for wp], anything earth shattering?

Stardust_ 09-13-2009 03:45 PM

Pretty cool if it has modules / etc that go beyond what google analytics provides... if not... why bother using it? Google analytics is great for me, and I feel as though google favours sites that use google analytics :thumbsup

U do know u are handing over ur game plan to Google right? .... I tested a site I had and after G analytics measured my bounce rate my traffic declined .... I am not saying that the traffic would have stayed the same way forever because sooner or later Google would have found out the bounce rate and adjusted the ranking accordingly ........ but I am saying that they can figure out your game much faster and adjust accordingly ...

Just food for thought....

but what if you actually run a decent site with low bounce rate? then it's actually good to have analytics on it...

I sense some common sense in this reply, enough of that already!

To many of you people out there think Google is an evil company just out to gather all the info they can, just to show you ads, OH THE HORROR!!

apparently.... google tried to embrace webmasters in every way including providing shitloads of awesome tools... and really, it was a devious plan to use that information against everyone and to punish those who use them. after all, how could that possibly backfire??

and notice the inverse is NEVER true. no one ever says "hey, i installed analytics and my traffic went up. .. .weird.

If you read the first post I implied the same thing, for those who don't want to use Analytics.

To me, this is exactly what makes this a solid thing, I own my stats and user data, NOT Google Inc.

That's because the only people bitching about Google having every single bit of info about them is the people trying to cheat Google and don't want to get caught...

I've heard many talk about shit going up almost 300% from installing Analytics on a good site... But that's obviously not porn.

www.pidgin.im That's all I can do link wise, as most of it was over AIM/ICQ/MSN.

Stop doing shady shit, or trying to game the system and you won't have problems with Google knowing about your site.

Davy 09-13-2009 11:33 PM

It uses mysql? That would suck my server down, I am sure.

I love analog, though it's not so easy to install.
