Thank god for battery-nacked-up routers - fucking prolonged power outage
Apparently there's a power outage here in Poway affecting a bunch of people. In half an hour 366 calls were made to the power company here SDG&E per their automated line, and their estimated time for power to come back is half an hour from now.
BUT - on a laptop + on a router with a battery backup = fully online and working on computer still despite nothing else in the house working, lol. Thank god for that! :thumbsup Otherwise I'd have to get outside and breathe air or something. Dunno what it is about this area but this is maybe the 20th power outage here in 2 and a half years of at least 10 mins and this'll be the longest. |
I'm about to set up a location with a bunch of mini-ITX Atom mainboards that run on a single 12V input, so there's no need for a UPS. They're also very efficient (each board draws less than 20W) so even a medium sized battery will provide for at least a few hours runtime in the event of a total power loss. I'm looking forward to putting it all together. :thumbsup
If you're really keen you can get a gas powered backup generator like PersianKitty... it will keep more than your laptop running. :) |
