My favorite hi powered rifle round is the

...30.06...but I am going add a Remington 700 to my arsenal and I am thinking of going with a different caliber. What would you recommend...308...270...7 mm mag and why?

theking 09-16-2009 06:07 PM

BTW...I don't hunt anymore...just target shoot.

theking 09-16-2009 06:30 PM

So I am looking for accuracy at a minimum of 500 yards.

Supz 09-16-2009 06:35 PM

high????

I know I am an idiot and full of pig shit and have not had the privilege of multiple lives so my post may not matter to you. Though I really and I mean really feel you post a lot of BS just to live a vicarious make believe life online.

A 308 or a .223 will suit most people fine at that range, at 1000 yards though you lost your ability to incapacitate. Now I am sure you know that you should be asking more about grain than size.
When it comes down to long range a .6mm still seems to dominate. However some still like the .408 chey tech. Unless you wish to step up to .50

Have not given much thought to just 500 yards since early on. Family has always still wanted punching power at 1000 yards.

Hopefully this loser will just shoot himself. Of course then we have to deal with "theking is dead" posts by his new personality.

Though I should not respond to your trolling ass...I will. I said that I am adding a 700 Remington (an xhr to be specific) and out of the calibers that you spoke of .308 is the only one that is provided for it. I normally do not fire beyond 500 yards and since I do not hunt anymore I do not care about the ability to incapacitate.

If you could accurately shoot at a MINIMUM of 500 YARDS you wouldn't need to ask about your choice of ammo. Dreamer.

I can put every round into a 20 inch bulls eye at 500 yards as well as make some head shots using my 30.06...using a peep site...and not a scope.

Like I said, then why the fuck are you asking for advise here of all places?

.

theking 09-16-2009 07:24 PM

BTW...I am satisfied that there are a few on this board that can make every round a head shot at 500 yards. There are one or more former snipers on this board.

Just to see if others prefer a different caliber other than the 30.06 for target shooting. Personally I believe that of the calibers that I named which can be used with the 700 Remington any of them would be good to go at 500 yards...but others may have a different opinion...though I thank you very much for you interest in "why the fuck" I am asking for advice.

Hmm...caliber and rifle are two different things...are they not?

It all depends on what your doing with it.

The faster that bullet goes the less drop you will have. This is why speed is so important.

Roy Weatherby's favorite round was the .257 Weatherby Magnum because it was so versatile. Depending on what grain bullet you can hunt mice to moose. With a 75 grain bullet you talking over 4000 FPS. I just won one of these BTW, I'm still deciding on a scope so I have not tried her out yet. From what I have read though I think this will be my new favorite.

My current favorite is my Weatherby Vanguard Chambered in 7mm Remington Magnum. I shoot 150 grain bullets over 3000 FPS. Lots of speed and knockdown horsepower.

But like I said it all depends what your doing and what happens to be closest to you at the moment and making it work the best you can.

Like I dropped this 250 lb wild hog this afternoon at 220 yards using a AK Sporter 7.62 x 39. That's like my beater rifle, stays on the 4 wheeler pretty much all the time so it's there when you need it.

My favorite gun is a phased plasma rifle in the 40 watt range.

I'm not going to ask what you need with a professional sniper rifle.

It's within your rights, carry on :pimp

My dad taught me to shoot when I was 5yrs old, I've been shooting all my life, and I'm an ex-military combat vet. I'm more of a collector than a shooter these days, but I've always loved assault rifles and sniper rifles.

I'm sitting here in my pajamas at just past 11am. I woke up just because it felt like it was time to wake up, and I came upstairs to my computer. I do this everyday.

Why would I want a job at the post office, or anywhere else?
