Came across about 20 wild hogs today.
Bagged a nice sow out about 250 lbs.

Are those like escaped hogs?

I thought there was a law in place that you can only chase them down and kill them by knife. I always wanted to do that. I really thought you weren't allowed to shoot them.

I know I would have to cure a leg or two, make some sausages, and bacon of course.

A boar can kill a pit bull dog or several, you don't want to go to close with a knife, that would be a big mistake.

this one i specified 2 rear hams whole (for the Weber)
front shoulders ground into sausage (50/50 mild/hot)
whole tenderloins and boneless chops
and the ribs of course :upsidedow

What does all that mean? I don't know shit about rifles but it looks pretty bad ass.

Fuck I did that as well right out of high school. I only lasted about 6 months though. I shaved fat off of hams 40 hours a week. That was pure hell.

After seeing what gets dumped into the hot dog mixture I have never touched another hot dog in my life.

Now I'm hungry...

Its far from lovely, its really gross.. but yeah if you kill it in a humane way and eat it, knock yourself out.

I only have a beef with people who kill animals for fun and make them suffer.

Dave if you are serious about wanting to kill one with a knife you can hit me up on ICQ (595832130). I used to go with a really good friend of mine all the time. I haven't gone in a while, but I still talk to him all the time.

Basically you ride around on a swamp buggy with a couple dogs (usually a pit bull and a scent dog like a kurr dog or hound). When the scent dogs start barking because it smells a hog, you let both dogs down on the ground. You will follow the dogs on the buggy until eventually the dogs catch up to the hog. The pit bull will grab the hog by the neck or ears and you will jump down, grab it by the back leg and stick it in the ribs until it is down.

Depending on the area and how big the hogs are estimated to be, the dogs will wear protective vests and collars to keep them from being cut up. There is no guns or bows, just you and a knife.

It is the most adrenaline rushing experience you will ever have in your life I can promise you that.

Does the pork having a more "gamey" taste?

It is definitely different tasting, but I wouldn't say it is gamey like venison can get. It is also not as strong with a sow.
