Upgraded my Comcast to 50Mb today.. speed

So in some areas comcast is rolling out new home prices and speed ..

Im now cursing the intertubes at 50mb down and 10mb up with the new comcast service... Downloads up to 50Mbps, uploads up to 10Mbps with PowerBoostŪ.The fastest download speeds around?incredible speeds for households with several computers, hard-core gamers, downloading HD movies and more.

A quick speed test from speedtest.net results..

now we are talking for consumers, we can really start to push higher quality videos over the cable.. its been here for a while but with the prices and higher speeds at least in the US its a good time for streaming videos. Of course with h264 in a flash container still sucks up that cpu cycles..

After some testing I have to say im quite surprised, for an extra $33 I went form like 10 Mb down 1+ up.. to a huge jump... now I can download all the free Porn I mean stuff I want :)

I currently am getting around 21 mbps coming down according to speedtest.net. But I don't notice that big of a difference between that and last year when I only had 8 mbs. I did some speedtests to my own servers and it looks like with everything going on on my boxes and traffic on the pipelines etc., etc. that the fastest speeds I get are around 6.5 mbs

I wonder if that is the case for 99% of websites out there? Pipes, internet congestion, latency, high traffic on a box, etc. ?

nice. i upgraded for about 2 days with FiOS and didnt think it was worth the money. They offer 100Mb line for $200/mo too

If you are on comcast you are still burst speed on that plan. the 50/10 plan is a full time 50 down and 10 up burst. I've noticed a pretty large difference on upload and download times.

Damn I would love to have that kind of speeds

candyflip 09-19-2009 12:03 PM

I'm on the list for the Time Warner test for 50/5. They've said we should have it hooked up by year's end.

Serious webmasters always choose areas to live where high-speed is the norm.

I move around a lot (i get bored of cities quick) I always end up where i can get at least 15-25mbps. Usually in the U.S. that means comcast or fios.

I would LOVE to live in Costa Rica for instance....but the net is horrible. Maybe in another 2-3 years.

I moved out to the sticks but made sure they had high speed internet here before hand. I called Comcrap probably 3 times and they said It was available here...but didn't mention it would take them over a month to get out here to run and dig 450' from the pole all the way up my driveway and to the house.

I fucking HATE Comcast. If I had any other choices, I would be with them...FIOS!

Comcast does suck...& their 250gig rule sucks too. I would much rather be on FIOS....but i can't seem to move into a neighborhood with it. And I've moved 5 times in the last 2 years. :1orglaugh

Oh & comcast servers suck too (huge latency issues)....then the net goes out when it rains, when it snows, during hard winds (which makes no sense its all underground)

borked 09-19-2009 02:08 PM

sorry, but you guys lag way way behind the Euro folk...

Fibre to the home, 100Mb down. 50 mb up, free telephone to the entire world, +tv, for ?30 per month

http://fibre-optique.sfr.fr/offres-f...ique/internet/

Is for an example....

:thumbsup

Don't forget we move backwards here - in another 2-3 years we'll hit 56K or possibly 33.6 :)

My cable company wanted 140/month for their top speed supposedly 50mb or so. Instead I just bought a Docsis 3.0 modem kept my current plan and now I'm getting between 70-90mb down and 5mb up. :)

I was only getting 11-20mb down or so with my old modem.

gecko 09-20-2009 01:53 AM

That`s a sweet ass connection

hypedough 09-20-2009 02:21 AM

Anyone know anything faster than Time Warner in the Hollywood area?

Nicky 09-20-2009 02:35 AM

Fuck, some of you guy's pay $200 for 50mb?? I pay $30 per month for 100mb/s fiber up and down.

ToplistBlog_Com 09-20-2009 01:30 PM

Nice, can't wait to get FiOS myself

Iron Fist 09-20-2009 02:13 PM

$200 bucks a month? Holy shit. That is as much as buying a vacation to the Caribbean every year, all inclusive 5 star.
