If you drink soda and want to live longer watch this video (VIDEO)

Here's a hint: a politically powerful Multi-billion industry has a vested interest in you fucking up your insulin process.
Robert H. Lustig, MD, UCSF Professor of Pediatrics in the Division of Endocrinology, explores the damage caused by sugary foods. He argues that fructose (too much) and fiber (not enough) appear to be cornerstones of the obesity epidemic through their effects on insulin. Series: UCSF Mini Medical School for the Public [7/2009] [Health and Medicine] [Show ID: 16717]

After watching this, one is tempted to support the "soda tax". I think that's the wrong way to go about fomenting dietary change though.

Let people eat and drink what they want to eat and drink. Put the info out there so they can make an informed decision. Gov needs to stay the fuck out of our lives. :2 cents:

Investing in self-education for 1.5 hours > years of diabetes II and/or heart disease-related suffering.

While I normally would tend to feel the same, I dont feel that way when I pay for their medical care. But I have been paying for it for so long now..

tranza 09-21-2009 05:42 AM

I don't want to live longer, thanks.

Do you want to know where all this High Fructose Corn Syrup is coming from?

Watch this documentary.
http://blog.beefmagazine.com/beef_da...000e-500pi.jpg

It is on NetFlix "Instant" if you have NetFlix.

Corn is in nearly everything these days, and it's the Government's fault.

In Canada we drink 'pop' - not soda.

It's healthier when you call it pop. :1orglaugh

When I have coke in my fridge I drink 5-6 of them a day. I just stopped buying it maybe a half a year ago, and replaced it all with water.

Surely that has to have a positive effect on my health over time. I don't miss it, but if there's a coke in the fridge now for whatever reason, it calls my name repeatedly.

I'm looking forward to when all of the most popular sodas come in stevia sweetened varieties.

As part of my new high fiber, low sugar, low fat diet, I start off the day with oatmeal and fruit.

GrouchyAdmin 09-21-2009 05:35 PM

Fuck y'all, I don't care if Splenda gives me cancer in 40 years, it's my co-pilot. Taurine's in the back seat twitchin' like a cokefiend.

gornyhuy 09-21-2009 06:30 PM

Tldnw...

gornyhuy 09-21-2009 06:49 PM

Holy crap dude - that video should be required watching for the whole country.

JaneB 09-21-2009 08:09 PM

I gave up caffeine 3 years ago so I stopped drinking most soda's then. I will on occasion drink a Sprite.

Bullshit. If I have to pay for your health care I have the right to tell you what you can and can not eat, drink or smoke. :2 cents:

bronco67 09-21-2009 09:13 PM

I always argue with my wife about that "calorie is a calorie" argument. She seems to think it doesn't matter what you eat, as long as you are under a certain amount of calories --- and I always thought it was bullshit.

1000 calories of asparagus will keep you in better shape than 500 calories of cupcakes.

That said, my wife is the one that eats healthy, and I'm the one that has the coffee and donut every night at 9PM.

Tanker 09-21-2009 09:19 PM

thanks I watched the whole thing! I have been on a really good diet 3600 callories but there good calories almost 0 sugar from anything but fruit

and Fructose is now my new word at the grocery store.

with that being said my diet has put 10 solid pounds of muscle in the last 5 weeks and dropped my waist size another 2 sizes down to a 30-32 waist.

Dianne looks a little stopped up. You might want to call her and make sure she's getting enough fiber. :1orglaugh

The same logic applies re exercising. Exercise not for 1:1 calorie burn but to improve metabolism. That's where the real calorie burning occurs--not exercise per se.

You aren't paying for my health care.... If you end up doing so you can blame people other than me. lol Plus I am healthy as can be. :winkwink:

Helen 09-22-2009 06:53 PM

I stopped drinking soda about a year ago when I found out how much sugar is in them. I usually just drink water or fruit juice now

I can honestly say that this video and support reading I've done has changed my life (and my diet). Sure, loading up on sugar may seem like a good time now but I've had relatives die from heart disease and diabetes and pancreatic cancer. Plus knowing people who deal with gout... geez, the list goes on.

Do yourself a favor and watch and spread that video. You may be planting the seed for a healthier and fuller life. Not just for yourself but for others as well.

/trying to spread good karma

So you think the US government is going to be capable of discerning what is good and bad for you? Further, you're gonna allow some idiot bureaucrat sitting in front of a monitor figure out what you should do? BTW, the cost of running that program will likely end up being more than the medical bills....

Sorry, this just doesn't sound like you??????????????
