when it comes to hosted flvs and stuff like that what size do you think in both dimension and length is about average these days?

I think it depends on the format.

Tubes, tgp submits, promo material, tours, etc..

these would be for affiliates to use to promote our gay and straight affiliate programs so i guess they would be promo tools?

There isn't much in the way of "standard" when it comes to that. A width of around 480px is good for blogs but I have seen bigger
