so what is a good way to get new affiliates?
 

part of the reason i am going to be posting on here is so i can maybe get some new affiliates to our gay program and upcoming straight affiliate program so what is the best way of getting affiliates to signup to these programs and once they have done that how can i tell if they will be good affiliates for sending traffics and sales?

Post on GFY and look for threads that say "Spam me with [relevant niche]" and advertise your site(s)

right im going to be doing that anyway but what i mean is are affiliate webmasters more inclined to join a program because the person who is posting on the boards replies to or starts a lot of business related threads or because they reply to and start a lot of fluff threads?

im not just an affiliate manager for them i do a lot of stuff with lee and gary including content sales, ad sales and development stuff :)

First you better understand the simple rules of the universe. For every 100 affiliates you get only 10 will send any sales or meaningful traffic. If your lucky or have something that converts real well you may exchange the number 10 to the number 20. Out of those 10-20 affiliates that send sales, only 1-2 will send more than 1 or so a day.

Second part is that your whales out there will do the work of many of your 1 or so a day affiliates. Problem is they are fucking hard to lure away from where they are already making stable money at so chances are if you do not know them yourself they are very hard to get. I would say you may get 1 whale of assorted size out of every 100 sale sending affiliates.

So if 1000 affiliates gets you 10 that send sales, you then need 100 of them to possibly get 1 whale (any size).

Knowing that, have fun collecting them affiliates. Someone already mentioned that when people post on gfy asking for sponsors to post in their thread if they have X type of sites. You can get some affiliates there. You can also check those same threads and look for people who seem to post in all of them with lists of every sponsor out there. These people seem to try to collect in on referral money.

oh i totally understand the 80-20 rule (or the 90-10 rule in your example) was just more interested in what drives a webmaster to join an affiliate program today when there are a lot competing for the same small pool of whales, large-ish affiliates and 1-a-day/week/month guys out there.
