Windows 7 first thoughts +iPhone note

Got the full retail version of Windows 7 Ultimate today and am really liking it! Faster and smoother; good interface. Love the new toolbar you can pin program links on (larger icons than the old quick launch.)

iPhone users - de-authorize your computer in itunes on Vista before you upgrade. It won't recognize it in 7 and you'll lose one of your authorization slots when you set it back up.

Also Vista users MUST have SP1 or later before they can upgrade. My C crashed when i originally did the SP install so I have avoided it until now. If you are in that same situation, get the direct download from MS don't use Windows Update.

So far all software and hardware are compatable, though there were a few driver updates to install.

So how is it overall? Any glitches with drivers?

I thought the same thing, but perhaps he managed to get his hands on a "builders" OEM version which I'm sure are out there somewhere.

My 'day job" is a journalist, I got an advance copy. No glitches yet. All hardware and software is working. Haven't found any bugs.

So is it standard now on new pc purchases? I've been dying to buy a new laptop but have been putting it off.

I highly recommend a clean install, ALWAYS for any OS... :2 cents:

I know HP has some day-of-release laptops ready to come out in Oct. Right now it's still the free upgrade option.
