Any webmasters ever managed to sell "their domain" to a celeb/famous person?

I know this goes against the grain and not what the domain experts advise but has anyone managed to contact a star (celeb, actor, whatever) and managed to close a deal with the sale of that famous person`s actual domain name?

For example, you own a famous singer`s domain name (such as justintimberlake but with the hyphen or the .net or even the .com) and emailed the individual/management and conducted the deal.

I believe domain experts mention that if you attempt to profit from such a name, that`s when they can demand it. That correct?

Anyway, anyone pulled it off and earned a few $k from it? :)

Maybe. Perhaps I should ask that question to the two people who I know who did just that to two minor UK celebs.

You seem to be a bit slow.

That would be a really great way to get sued. Your goal should be that they never notice you.

I understand trademark infringement however their are plenty of instances of the owner of said domains being approached and a sale taking place. I just wondered if people had had any success with the reverse method and encountering no legal issues.

I know two people who did just this with sale of domain names to minor UK celebs hence why I asked the question.

I had, a domain of one of the biggest singers from the Netherlands :) He just went bankrupt, so the dutch now who he is.

His provider accidently didn't renew his domein in an other country. We catched it and after 14 months they noticed. They were happy we catched it for them and that we handed it over in a few hours cause he was starting a promotion for his new tour. Someone else who had an other domain of him couldn't be reached (some russian guy), so they had to get that domain with a lawyer. We got 4 VIP tickets worth 2000 dollar and a great show. I knew that i was wrong and they would win if they sued us. But we were happy and he was happy with it. I wouldn't take the risk of going to court, that would have cost us money.

airholland, nice story.

I'd say you have a better chance of losing the domain than getting paid.

Who were the UK celebs?

One was a model and the other was a reality TV turned pop star.
