for the sake of $20 set of locking nuts...

stickyfingerz 09-29-2009 10:35 AM

If you can afford a gtr you really should make sure you can afford a garage to lock it away in everynight. Unless they were visiting someone else and stayed over the evening I guess.

Ross 09-29-2009 10:38 AM

Doesn't matter if you have locking nuts or not, end the matter is if these dickheads want your rims they gonna take them. Someone told me in a pub one night he was coming for my rims on my car (in a joke way), I laughed and told him to go ahead, enjoy setting off the alarm while he tried to get the locking nuts off.. he laughed and said wanna bet me $50 I cant get your rims without setting off the alarm or having too much trouble with your locking nuts.. I looked at him and said no thanks, would you like another drink.

Kenny B! 09-29-2009 10:39 AM

That sucks, years ago I had my car put on blocks and mags stolen. Such a pain in the ass!

Professional wheel thieves are not slowed down by locking nuts in the slightest. All they do is make you feel better about the $20 you just spent on 4 lugnuts.

Wheel theft in Vancouver has been a massive epidemic for about 10 years, in some underground parking lots at major malls you'll see 1-2 wheel-less cars coming out on flatbeds a day. From what I hear the teams can take the wheels and drop the car in like a minute.

dyna mo 09-29-2009 10:42 AM

how do they remove the locking nut?

Deesnuts 09-29-2009 10:43 AM

Uhm, and who's to say you buy 4 locking nuts to put one on 4 wheels? 4 different set, one from each set on each wheel. If wheel crime is such a big problem in your area.

They aren't crime proof, no. But they are a deterrent and 16 of the suckers are better than 4. Well, when it comes to protecting a 2-3 grand purchase....

And dunno about you, but my insurance won't replace wheels/damage from wheel theft if there wasn't locking nuts on.

a socket slightly larger with a rubber insert, or you just hammer on a socket. I lost the locking key for my car and had to use the hammer on a socket method. didnt really take all that much time either...

dav3 09-29-2009 11:00 AM

that seriously sucks ass... but at least they left the car.

L-Pink 09-29-2009 11:13 AM

What's the big deal about time-shifting a set of rims. You guys seriously need to start adapting to changes in wheel theft thinking ... I mean once you take them into the public domain they're fair game.

the front calipers alone are worth at least 2 gs i'm surprised they didn't take off those 2 bolts while they were at it. i paid 1g for a set of 13" wildwoods

Locking nuts are pointless.. One of the guys I went to school with, owns a tire store. I bought a car one time that had locking nuts but no key. He took a socket that was just barely the right size to fit around the nut beat it on with a hammer and took off the nut.

Took him all of about 5 mins to get all 4 off.

Looks like lesson 1# here is don't drive a nice car and live in an Apt complex with out a garage.

Reverse threaded grabber thing. As it spins the nut off it grabs the outside of the nuts. That and they have most of the keys for the locking nuts lol. Only so many different combinations.

spideriux 09-29-2009 12:38 PM

damn, fucking niggas :(

Slightly undersized socket. Just hammer it on and the locking nut is off in no time at all.
