This Section Should Be Locked Up Right Now EXCEPT...

For vetted industry people.

Eric, the general public has no business in this forum and shouldn't be allowed in here.

After reading surfer forums full of surfers LAUGHING at the webmasters on GFY and our posts about piracy killing sales...We need a place to discuss strategy and ideas without giving it away like we have every other detail of our business on GFY over the last few years (much to the detriment of this business)

This should be at least the ONE section that requires that YOU know who is allowed to read it and that you personally know that they have vested interest in it.

Just saying. I've been begging for a "real" section for people in this business only for a while. This could be that section.

If you don't do something along those lines, I fear it will either be dead as hell on this section...OR it will be closeley monitored by pirates.

And who is gonna decide who the vets are and who aren't? So deny access to newbies who don't know much and they will think it's aright to go out and get full length videos, so instead of educating them, you're pushing them away, and creating another person that could become another big pirate site... :2 cents:

stever 09-29-2009 01:59 PM

props
power to what robbie says

i agree

Si 09-29-2009 02:14 PM

Perhaps not the general discussion,

But a sub-forum of "ideas and soloutions" should be locked down to the people who will be working with/using the ideas and/or soloutions to start fighting back against this problem.

Not sure it could work but if someone has an idea / product / service that works, we wouldn't want that to be put out there for all eyes to see.

digitaldivas 09-29-2009 02:45 PM

I agree, thanks Robbie for bringing this to light!

Nicky 09-29-2009 03:41 PM

I agree with Robbie here.

Nobody said anything about "Vets" I said "Vette" as in "Confirm that they are legitimately in this business"

I agree that new folks should not be excluded.

TheHatchet 09-29-2009 04:06 PM

Even if fellow industry people could make others "Industry Certified" that'd be sweet... im certain there is a vbulletin plugin for this

Jim_Gunn 09-29-2009 06:49 PM

Good idea, Robbie.

Dirty Dane 09-29-2009 06:58 PM

Bingo!

This is what I'm talking about Eric. Do we really need fake nicks and trolling and all the "wit" in this one section?

As soon as gideongallery jumps in here with his bullshit..I'm gone.

Crying now. And I guess you're a homophobe as well? I like gay people.

If I didn't know for a fact that you're only here with your fake nick because you're pissed at GFY over the tube skin and want to drive everyone away...I'd think you have serious issues. But I know what you're doing so I also know you have no serious issues. Just a beef with GFY. Carry on with your crusade.

In the meantime I'd still like to know, if and when Eric finally gets done drinking at Oktoberfest if he could please take your ass out of this section along with any other fake nicks and/or surfers and anybody who can't prove that they are in this business.

NBO 09-30-2009 12:04 AM

I agree with you Robbie, as long as newbies like myself will be able to take a part of the discussions. I might not have much to show for but I am def. working on it and as time passes by I am learning more and more. Don't mistake me for some hack that don't care, have a fake nick or a regular surfer (my nick is my company if you were wondering). I am 100% dedicated and I'm just looking for the perfect wave.

That's the kind of people who should be in this section.

What a joke to even have this kind of nonsense here.

Fukcdoll 09-30-2009 06:14 AM

So how would you determen someone who is able to view and participate on this kind of board?
Obviously 'ass holes' need kept in their place- but what about the true new folks in the community?

Being new myself- I'm just curious as to how that process of elimination would occur?

Simple. You write a mod. Introduce yourself, list what you do in this business and show a url proving you are at the very least a webmaster. Pretty simple.

There is another adult biz forum that REQUIRES every poster to post in an "introduce yourself" thread before they are allowed to post anywhere.

That stops all the bullshit and stupidity right there.

It may have been funny 8 years ago when the first guy got the cute idea to register a fake nick and use it to act stupid. But now it's so played out that it's just a waste of space.

Those need to be gone, at least in one damn section. And anybody that isn't actually in the business of producing, acting in, design, creating, or selling porn shouldn't be in here either.

If a person is in this business they should be able to easily say: "Hi, my REAL name is blah-blah My nick is blah-blah I own blah-blah and here is my website. I would like to be able to post in the PORN BUSINESS section"

That should be simple enough. Let people act like jackasses in the Fucking Around section. It's almost impossible to have any kind of business discussion over there.

And further I'd make it to where IF somebody decides to act uncivil in this section...they are BANNED from this section. Let them act like assholes in the rest of GFY.

Just one little section that isn't entertainment, but actual business that is unviewable by the general public would be very welcome.

StinkyPink 09-30-2009 07:41 AM

GFY is what GFY is... it always has been.
You don't like it, there are plenty of other forums that have what you are looking for.

I was an adult webmaster a long time ago. I lost all my sites when registerfly had their shit.

I moved to mainstream and started over. I still visited the adult boards to see what was happening, reading, and learning more and more. I had been bedriddin for awhile due to spinal injuries, took me out of work for over a year. All the while still reading boards, blogs and news feeds, soaking up the information.

Now that I am getting better I wanted to have my own tube site, a legal one. I wanted to come out of lurker mode, start building my network again, and make some contacts. I am a newbie, even though I have been around for several years. The online adult industry is nothing like it used to be, but GFY is still the same.

I do agree with you about making this section private, at least so guests can't view threads. I mean, GFY wanted proof for me to get activated. I sent emails with urls to admin. And here I am.

Eric 09-30-2009 10:40 AM

Got this locked down to Registered users only now. We will start there and get more strict if need be

Registered users is a good start. The next step (IMO) would be making it viewable to members with at least 100 (or 250 or whatever) posts.

Post count means nothing... Way to restrict true vets who don't spend their time on the boards posting, but lurking and posting when they see fit.

Post count doesn't mean much, sure. But most people who have been around for a while (I think I count as someone who's been around the adult net for eons but mostly lurks, which is who you are referring to) have made least 100 or so posts over the years. I didn't say 10,000 posts. It would eliminate more "bad" people than "good" people. Just look at the post counts in this thread.

papagmp 10-06-2009 03:18 AM

Lock it down to those that actually own copy-right material and those that are actively involved in the protection of it. If an applicant can't prove he/she/it own anything that is at risk - or provides a service to protect such content, let them sit outside till they can.

These are a few of the obvious candidates:
1: program owners
2: producers
3: talent
4: editors
5: people actively involved or that own services that protect content

To be honest - just being an affiliate, imo, is not in itself enough to qualify someone for this discussion - any more than just being a board member. After all, we all know how hard it is to sign up for the average program. :2 cents::2 cents:

I've seen many people with reg dates of 2001 and are very big time in the industry with less then 50 posts...

This is why I originally said that anybody who wanted entrance to this section should have to go to Eric or Ice. Provide them your real name and what you do in this business and your history. That would eliminate trolls, fake drama nics, etc. And it wouldn't keep out real affiliates who do business. But the point is moot obviously. I guess this is just another section for getting post views and trying to drive traffic for advertising purposes. Which in and of itself is just fine...but as I said earlier...couldn't we have just ONE serious section where business can be conducted without non-industry people being privy to it? The answer is apparently "no".

Va2k 10-28-2009 12:30 PM

I agree, He did lock it down so it's a start!
