Icq (at least my icq, 2002b and now the new one) is now server based. In other words, if you install icq on another company and use your number and password, your contact list will show up on that computer as well. The contact lists are now stored at their site.

In the past you just had to copy a couple files and paste them after downloading icq on a new comp. I beleive that is no longer necessary on all versions.

i am talking about the history files no the contact list.

You could try your DB file

its located in the ICQ directory, and depending on your version it will be in a folder called "2003a" or something similar.

Yeah, but the history doesn't tranfer over. I had the same #/name on two different comps. The contact list, yes...the history, no. But there's got to be a way to do it.

I have used download.com many times.

But icq rescue it is only for contact list right?

Make backing up and restoring your ICQ contacts a snap.

american pervert 12-10-2002 03:35 PM

does all of it...

its free, why not try it?

I dont think it will work for history because the history is saved on the old computer. If i run that program how it wll get the history from the old compnuter ???

flashfreak 12-10-2002 03:54 PM

here's how it works: install icq on the new comp and then copy the ICQ folder from your old computer (it's in Program Files ) and paste it on the new computer over the fresh installed icq...

simple no?
I did it , good luck for you too...!

My Bad.

I have no idea on that one!

joefoxxx 12-10-2002 04:53 PM

All history is saved in

c:\program files\icq\200xx\

where XX is the version of they ICQ version you are using.

Install ICQ on the new computer and register your account there. After that close ICQ on the new computer and just copy the folder.
This way you will have the same name/contactlist (this is smth you did in step one) and all your history (what you got after copying that directory)

Simple as that. When I do a reinstall I allways save the 2003 folder here and it allways worked. No extra software needed

Sundelo 12-12-2002 10:27 PM

it is not so good idea - insert old history in new dat file
Becouse with 20Mb dat file ICQ client will hangs on startup
Better way convert history from old dat file to html with program ICQHR - download here
and read all history in HTML format :winkwink:
