In Canada, everybody that lives outside of Toronto, Hates Toronto. Here's why.

Toronto #1. That is all. :)

Martin: your location says "Mississauga" NOT Toronto... you only wish you were as cool. :winkwink:

BlackCrayon 10-01-2009 11:45 AM

I don't hate toronto but wouldn't want to live there. Its too crowded and takes forever to get anywhere.

Toronto is far from too crowded. Every European city I have been to is always way more crowded.

I think it is cooler than Van.

Well Mississauga is only 10 minutes down the QEW. Pretty much Toronto. I lived in Toronto for half my life too before I moved to Sauga :P

i hate living in big cities, i grew up in one, and will never move to one again. that doesn't mean i don't love to visit, it's just that i can't really stand more than a week at a time, then i need to get out of there and head back to the mountains (unless of course i'm on a trip, traveling around to other places). as far as Canadian cities go, i've lived in Vancouver, Montreal, Edmonton and spent quite a bit of time in Toronto. i'd definitely say Montreal is my favorite large city in Canada.

TheLegacy 10-01-2009 01:05 PM

I lived in Toronto for about 20 years ( and a few surrounding cities ), after a while you crave the calm simply country life away from the attitudes

Kenny B! 10-01-2009 01:20 PM

The city is about as good as it's hockey team!

alias 10-01-2009 01:22 PM

I don't live in a city currently. Country living' bitches.

Jim_Gunn 10-01-2009 01:30 PM

I used to love visiting Toronto. I shot about fifteen pro-am adult movies there back in the 90's. The strip club scene was really great there and I discovered a ton of new talent in the wild ass strip clubs back in the day. Do any of you guys remember The Million Dollar Saloon in Mississauga or Fantasia in Richmond Hill? I had some life changing experiences in those places! :-)

The Million Dollar :1orglaugh Wow. That's OLD man. When I was a kid me and my brother would sneak around back and peek into the kitchen where we could just barely see the stage and caught a titty now and then...

Btw people, this wasn't a thread to share you're personal feelings about living in a city. No one cares if you want to live like a country bumpkin with the Mountain people and your sheep. I was just stating the facts on how everybody outside of Toronto in Canada hates Toronto because we're the best city in Canada (by far) and one of the best cities in the world.:thumbsup They playa hatin on us.

The city you live in is whatever you make it.

When I was in Costa Rica, I rocked the ghetto of San Jose and had a blast.

When I lived in White Rock, I rocked it and had a blast.

Now I live in Gastown in Vancouver, and yes, I am rocking it, and having a blast.

I lived in Winnipeg for a month and rocked that town too. I've never been to Toronto, but here's a video of what some areas of Toronto are like:

https://youtube.com/watch?v=DjhJgR4ZR8A

https://youtube.com/watch?v=DjhJgR4ZR8A

Don't have that in Vancouver.

Don't trust youtube for getting a sense of what a city is like!

You can do a similar search for 'the real vancouver' and watch videos like this:

But Vancouver & Toronto are both safe cities and great places to live for different reasons. So I agree with the first part of your post.

I live right down there in the "greenzone" of a nice loft on Cordova.

I'd MUCH MUCH MUCH rather deal with the people down here, than the people in the videos I posted from Toronto.

I'm sure it does. My point was just that youtube videos can't really be used as empirical evidence because they are often alarmist. I live about a 10 minutes walk away from some of the 'sketchiest' intersections downtown and I've never seen any gang violence in Toronto. I feel completely safe walking down my street at 3 in the morning.

Saskatoon is apparently the most dangerous city in Canada and Toronto doesn't even make the top 10, Vancouver does though;p

Most Dangerous Cities in Canada by Rank

Statistics aren't everything though. Certain cities will be more dangerous for certain groups of people e.g. specific racial, class, or gender. I grew up in one of the most dangerous cities of the world, but was more privileged than most so I wasn't exposed to the same level of crime.

Live wherever you feel happy and at home. That means different things for different people or at different stages of your life.

Keep in mind you're also a woman, and the threats you and I face are quite different.

Where as bums and crack fiends down here get out of my way in a hurry, they might actually harass you if they think they could frighten a woman into giving money.

Similar with gangsters who might holler at you but otherwise ignore you, if they are in a pack at a bar, they are much more likely to want to fight men than women. I doubt I'd be safe walking through a black project in Toronto.

Maybe, but I grew up in South Africa so I'm very street wise;) I just find it slightly amusing when Canadians complain about crime that doesn't impact them directly. Obviously any person who is a victim of crime is going to struggle with PTSD and anxiety issues. But Canadians are generally very safe wherever you live in the country, or visit.

I lived in Kitchener/Waterloo for a few months when I first arrived in Canada and I was flabbergasted when so many people living there said they had NEVER been to Toronto because of all the terrible crime and violence. KW is about an hours drive from Toronto and I thought it was strange that they would miss out on seeing some great live concerts and theatrical productions for no good reason.

But I'm definitely not saying that Toronto is better than Vancouver, or that Vancouver is better than Toronto. They are very different cities, so you can't really compare. I'm a restless soul so I'm sure I will move to B.C at some point especially since my party rock star days are over. I do miss living near the ocean and mountains because I grew up in Cape Town.

But if I had lots of money and time to burn then I would live in New York, or Amsterdam, or Edinburgh. I'd love to just be a citizen of the world because there are so many amazing places to live. Unfortunately it is expensive to move and you have to deal with all those annoying immigration procedures.
