I can understand that. They probably didn't want to get the police involved and just wanted to notify their friends and family. I would probably get a faster response posting to my facebook than I would if I called the cops.. lol

Imagine what could have happened if their (similar aged?) friends had decided to come and find them, rather than doing the right thing and calling the authorities. That shit could have become far more serious.

screw face book. not only would I dial 911 (000, or whatever emergency was) I would send a mass text message to my entire phone book.

Maybe they didn't feel it was an emergency, in many places you are charged for rescues and the rescuers get to charge fee's lawyers would blush at.

Could be other factors too , i often dont get a signal in rural areas for a call but i can use the web browser just fine, infact the other day i was meeting up with friends hunting and had no signal but managed to get them by email.

Facebook posting?? How many people took it seriously when they saw the updates? Also what was said, aren't they underage to have a facebook account? Police should just have had their own facebook account and updated it when they heard to say, "we'll be right there after checking our emails and twitter"

Facebook originated for college and highschool kids. You couldn't even get access for a long time without having a school email address to sign up. I usually get tons of responses on mine anytime I post an update, and nearly ALL of my family is on there, along with friends, and tons of people in my area. I could see using it as a help beacon with no problem. And would be easy for people to contact my other family members to let them know as I have the family thing enabled that lists all my family members on facebook, and most of them have their cell numbers etc on facebook under their info. Fastest way for me to get messages out to all of my family and friends without question. :2 cents:

using facebook is great way to get a message out to a mass of people quickly. only people who have their heads up their asses culturally can't see the logic in this.

:2 cents: Yup most of the people don't understand the power of it once you have a decent network of friends and family built up. I could put a status message up right now saying I was in danger and would have help on the way within 5 minutes with the people that are on my network. Of course I have 2000 friends and family on mine. Many people receive updates via their cell phones as well as computers, so a lot of the people I send out updates to would be immediate and go right to their cell.

Of course I suppose going through and calling people one at a time might be faster... :uhoh lol But of course anyone that says opposite of some peoples views are stupid, or idiots. lol
