Legal? Parking enforcement ticketing inside LAX parking garage??

I got $25 no front plate ticket while out of town.. but there was no ticket under my windshield wiper. Just got notice in the mail today.

Monday 3:57pm. I was out til Wednesday.. as I was leaving, strangely, the cashier that charged me a whopping $94 to park in the long-term garage for a whole 3 days walked out to look at my front plate (as if she noticed it was missing) then exits her booth and walks to the back and made note of my plate writing it down. WTF? I thought nothing of it til now.

They working with the cops?? Making commissions? .. wtf.

Sly 10-11-2009 06:18 PM

It's an airport, they are extra anal. She probably had someone run your plates and after they realized you weren't a terrorist decided to give you some anal sausage anyway.

Forest 10-11-2009 06:22 PM

i guess if they are managed by the county they have the right to do that

IllTestYourGirls 10-11-2009 06:44 PM

nevermind

NickB. 10-11-2009 07:28 PM

of course they check all cars in the long term parking garage closeby an airport

Iron Fist 10-11-2009 08:06 PM

Just checking to see if you were a terrorist.... you see terrorists don't check their mail. Clearly, you passed the test.. congrats, your not a terrorist! Now pay the fine.

JustDaveXxx 10-11-2009 09:22 PM

Pay it, fix it and dont try to understand it. I flipped off and cursed out a meter maid who told me to move my car. I thought that i told him.

2 months later i got a parking in a handicapped space ticket in the mail for $350. And there was no arguing it. So who really showed who? Now I treat meter maids with respect now.lol

mynameisjim 10-11-2009 09:37 PM

Cities have been doing that for while. They troll the parking lots looking for people to ticket.

I was parked in O'hare long term and got back from California, was wearing shorts and it was about 5 degrees and snowing. When I got to my car it had a boot on it for 4 parking tickets. Of course, they only take cash, so I had to walk to a hotel about a mile away to use the ATM.

After Shock Media 10-11-2009 09:47 PM

Be ultra glad it was not a tow able offense. Many parking lots have contracts with tow companies and Oh Boy! do they patrol those suckers. Zero reason with the drivers either. If they have you nailed, truck behind you - even if not hooked up you are fucked. At very best they will let you pay an instant fee to not tow you if your lucky.

Saw someone towed while a person was in the passenger seat. Well they hooked it up and were just waiting to lift it, as they will not tow with someone inside. Approximately 5 minutes latter the driver came out screaming and hollering. To bad, so sad. They were both in a handicapped space with no permit "and" using the parking lot for a business across the street despite what the warning signs say.
Willing to bet that was the most expensive pizza that couple ever bought.

famous 10-11-2009 10:01 PM

my friend got one at lax for the same thing hehe

dav3 10-12-2009 03:03 AM

Writing dumbshit tickets is big business.

baddog 10-12-2009 08:13 AM

I think a better question would be, how long have you lived here that you have not figured out that plates are mandatory on the front and back . . . no matter how cool you think your car is . . .

How boring life must be for you, in every situation you know better.

Adam X 10-12-2009 09:32 AM

lol thx for all responses.. I didn't know those fukkers trolled the garages..

baddog.. its not that I think my 10 yr old dodge durango is cool... its that I havent
reinstalled the plate that was accidentally ripped off by the tow truck after having broke down on the road to vegas a few years back..

whats more, the new 2010 dodge challenger I'm lookin at doesn't pull into the lot with a front plate either... vanity costs but who wants to drill holes in their car?

TondaB 10-12-2009 10:55 AM

I hate LAX. I swear I get a ticket for something everytime I go there!!!

SNA all the way baby:)

Not all states require front plates, so Chrysler has an adapter that is installed to accommodate those states that do.

If your plate had been ripped off by a tow truck days ago, instead of years ago I might have some sympathy . . . as would the judge.

You do not have to be particularly intelligent to notice that every car in the state has front and rear license plates. :2 cents:

did you remove your plate? if so, then pay the fine and stfu

if not, then that fucking sucks. someone did that to me once in Vegas in a parking lot. Didnt notice that my plate was missing until I got back and pulled over outside of LA

dyna mo 10-12-2009 11:06 AM

fyi, in l.a., don't drive through a crosswalk when there's someone in it, even if they've walked past you and are on the other side, just a step or 2 from the curb. i've seen the police pull over quite a few cars for that when it was clear the pedestrians were out of the way.

I don't miss LA at all. 7 days in long term where I love now cost me $35.

He parked in the terminal, instead of a true long term parking lot that would have been $5/day.

That's what I'm saying! It's just so impressive that you are always right on.

The rest of us idiots must really get on your nerves what with our being wrong all the time.

Oh snap!

Another hit to add to baddog's 1.000 career average.

I stopped a guy from towing my car once. It was 2am in an apartment used mostly by students at Sacramento State University, there was nobody parking in pretty much the entire parking lot - except for me. But I didn't have a permit. He had the cable hooked up to my axle when I found him, and I told him to stop... he said "not until you pay me $180." I said "Not gonna pay you, and you're not taking the car either".

Got him to disconnect it for $80. Fuck that guy. I know that money went straight into his pocket, too.

I don't think there's very much legitimacy going on with a lot of these towing operations. Most of them seem as shady as it gets.

KBoogie 10-12-2009 01:21 PM

I got a parking ticket for $60.00 at Ontario Airport in Cali while I was at internext this summer when someone pulled my registrtation tag sticker from my car. The cop didn't even pull my plates to check if my tags were expired per the DMV. I got it signed off but I still had to go through the hassle.

:disgust

I feel you!

Here is what I would have done. I would either disconnected the cable and drove off, get into the vehicle or stand between the tow truck and my vehicle. I'm not paying the guy a fucking dime for a service I didn't request.

yeah imagine trying to disconnect a tow truck.. the latches, chains, hydraulics.. his fist. ;)

they tow people nightly on Sunset blvd.. after midnight you are fucking towed. They wait like vultures.. you think parking and paying for a meter is ok if you can find one available.. then drink and taxi home if too drunk, only to find that you're gone the next day. Gotta be aware of the posted signage LA loves to collect revenue with.

Airport, thanks dyna mo... best I find a good lot nearby with quick transfer. Anyway I'm over this topic yesterday!

!

That is when you just get in the vehicle and just chill.
They cannot force you out of your vehicle and they cannot tow an occupied vehicle.

JP-pornshooter 10-12-2009 05:54 PM

never heard that a front plate is required as long as you park head in..
btw, i have a hybrid and have gotten a few parking tickets, every time i go online to pay them, they are gone.. must be some rule that if you drive a hybrid you dont need pay for parking lol (i am loving it and btw i dont have a front end lic plate on my car)

In Melbourne City they have "clearways" which are a lane that can be parked in during off peak times, but during peak it is used solely for moving traffic. If your car is still sitting there 5 minutes after the clearway period starts (usually 3-4pm) it will have a flatbed tow truck in front of it in no time. Sucks if you get caught, but a blocked clearway lane DOES cause serious issues with traffic flow. :2 cents:

You waste all day and you pay the fine 1st, then you get a court date a month out. Then you come in and the meter maid says you did it and you say you didnt and you loose and wasted 2 full days that i could have been shooting. Its not about what you say, its about what you can prove. Meter maids carry serious weight in court.

And if you get pissed and loose it in court, you will end up in jail for contempt. Nobody wins in LA against the parking enforcement.

I got off easy, by just paying it. I would have murdered people going through all of that court shit just to loose. Jail time for sure for contempt!!!:2 cents:

You would of ended up either physically stopped from doing it, or arrested. Odds are both. They do have the law on their side.

But they can very easily and will radio the cops who can get you out of a vehicle. You will end up towed and now also dealing with a pissed off cop who has to handle even more paperwork.
