Had to buy a new modem today...

Ever had a modem take a shit on you... Just wondering how often does you modem go out and need to be replaced. This is my third modem in 7 years, what's common...

Mine come from the cable company. I'm sure we pay a nice monthly fee instead of being given the option of buying our own.

I've leased from the cable company as well. Already replaced it twice so I feel ok about my decision.

Yeah, I guess I could of waited till tomorrow to sit on the phone all day with ATT, while they try and diagnos the dead modem. I think if I have them replace it for a lease it would of been the same price.

Oh well $80 upgrade every 2-3 years ain't to bad. Im just happy to have my internet running again.

modem? you mean 14.4kbps?? LOL jk

Last time I bought a modem was actually in dial up days.
Every provider has given them to me. With my cable company the modem has a tiny monthly fee, then I also pay like 4.99 a month for wirepro insurance. Typically I would pass on such offers, however since I am a damn gimp it is hard to fix it myself at times. So this means ALL service calls are free, even if it turns out to be a user issue. I also get to deal with a specialized support department 24/7 and they are not the typical outsourced Indians who ask you stupid ass shit 200 times. I get easy to understand, American techs who will jump start at the level of help you tell them you need. Personally that alone is worth the 5 bucks.

Modems, dog chewed wires, new usb wireless cards, etc. All free and covered.

I can't believe I get 850K a second on this thing sometimes.... man that is sweet.

:1orglaugh I haven't even thought about a modem in years. Which is funny considering they used to be such a big part of my life.

I never had to replace a modem, they always worked fine.

And now I got a LAN-port directly in the wall so I don't use a modem anymore. ;)

I've had to replace my adsl modem once...

MrMaxwell 10-12-2009 04:37 AM

My cable modem started overheating and slowing down
So I took an old copper penny and some thermal adhesive I had ..

I went through 3 in 7 with Charter as well; they just come out and swap it (unless you own it)

HomerSimpson 10-12-2009 06:04 AM

I got mine from cable company for free to use while I'm their customer...
Works good for 4 years now...
