Every other country in the world calls football "football" anyway. It's only in America it's called soccer for some reason.

And yes, American football does seem a little strange being called football since the ball is hardly ever used with the foot.

that's a neat analogy, just like your 1st one, but the protective equipment in football is donned pre-game so there are no delays in football due to helmets and padding being worn.

back in the day, football players didn't wear much if any padding, and soft leather helmets, similar to rugby. But due to injuries, american ingenuity came to the rescue with good solid protective gear and it is now required due to the brutality of the sport.



in fact, football is not interrupted as much due to less injuries sustained during game play, thanks to the advances in protection.

I don't recall suggesting wearing this ghey padding added delays to the game.

As I understand it, delays are actually naturally built in to the rules of American Football? Seems they actually stop running about doing the actual sport part or actually doing anything strenuous every few minutes, then they get their breath back, kick the ball down the field a bit?

Rugby and American football have very little in common. American football is much, much more violent. They wear pads for a reason.

Is there blocking in rugby? Are there blind side hits in rugby? Are there head on collisions? Why do you think there are way more injuries in football than in any other sport? Do you think they just wear those pads cuz they look cute?

Look at the size of American football players. Do you know how to calculate kinetic energy? Their size and speed is unmatched in any sport on the planet. The energy in which they collide easily breaks bones, hence all the padding. Rugby players are generally smaller. Less mass means less kinetic energy which means less potential for injury. The hits are infinitely less brutal and come from much smaller players which negates the need for padding.
