spam me with UNMANAGED hosting

I'm looking to add another small dedicated server. This machine will be used for a second nameserver, backup or primary email server, small web server. So, nothing major, just looking to replace a machine that I've had for 3 years and get a better deal.

Looking for unmanaged, unmetered 10mb.

Atom 330 or AMD 2800+ or BETTER.
at least 2GB RAM.
200gig hdd or better.
unmanaged
10mb unmetered
24 ip addresses or more.
FreeBSD or OpenBSD for OS.

control of my own reverse DNS would be a plus, but not a deal breaker.

I don't need any hand holding, I only hit up support for random hardware issues or outages.

Please spam me :thumbsup

CYF I just sent you a proposal with 2 different options, of which both would more than meet your requirements. Feel free to hit me up with any questions you may have.:winkwink:

I've used swiftco in the past and they were great, but to configure a server like what I'm looking at would be about 150 bucks a month and this is just going to be a replacement for my current backup server.

I've seen pacific rack on here, don't have any feedback on them really. They have an unmetered deal for $60 a month but the ram and hard drive are smaller than what I'm looking for.

Here's my current backup server:
amd 2800+
1.5gig ram, 100gig hdd
1000 gigs per month on a 100mbit connection
openbsd
16 ip addresses
$52 a month

Looking for something similar, this is a backup nameserver and backup email right now. I'm only pushing maybe a quarter of the 1000 gigs per month.

FDCServers have a 10mb unmetered deal with an atom 330, 200 gig hdd and 2 gigs ram for $49 a month but their ip network is a concern for me. It would be great if someone could match that or offer something similar for 50-60 a month. I've had this server for over 3 years now, looking for a longer term provider.

Still looking for more offers, would like to get something going this week :thumbsup

I've looked at them before, they had a really nice promo deal a while back that was almost exactly what I was looking for. Couldn't configure the server with freebsd though, and the promo ran out before I could get a response as to whether or not they'd do a freebsd install.

I was a sysadmin in a past life, managing a server isn't a big deal for me.

I've dabbled in it.. just don't have the patience or the time to do that today... now if this was 20 years ago.. well that's a different story :)

I'm waiting on a response from someone at pacificrack right now. They've got something in the right ballpark, I don't need a core2duo since this is pretty much going to be only a secondary nameserver and backup MX.

Iron Fist 10-12-2009 11:03 PM

If its only running DNS you don't need to be paying Dual Core prices. If you know how to configure it right, you could run that on an old 486 for christ sake.. never mind all this overpowered crap everyone wants to sell you.

Exactly. Every offer I've gotten has been in the 99 dollar range, couple have been for managed servers even. I posted a thread looking for FDCServer feedback, they have an atom 330 200gig hdd 2gigs ram and unmetered 10mb for $49 a month. No one seems to like them on here though, but they get nice reviews on webhostingtalk.com.

Like I said in my original post, I'm just looking for a small cheap server. It's the ns2, backup MX server, and failover webserver. There's a couple of small websites on it. It's only pushed a couple of gigs of traffic so far this month.

This is what I currently have:

amd 2800+
1.5gig ram, 100gig hdd
1000 gigs per month on a 100mbit connection
openbsd
16 ip addresses
$52 a month

root@ns2:~# uptime
1:05AM up 223 days, 11:48, 5 users, load averages: 0.27, 0.29, 0.25

No one seems to want to match or beat it though. I pay quarterly, and it renews on the 16th so it looks like I'll be staying here until next year at least.

sandman! 10-12-2009 11:21 PM

the problem is there is no $$$ selling $50 servers unless your biz is huge volume low margins very few companies want to do that there might be 10 companies out of 1000's that sell $50 servers.

I could re-arrange some stuff and push more bits from this box, and then it'd be worth upgrading to a better server and paying more. I'll see what I can do in the next day or two before I end up paying for another 3 months up front.

EDIT: I'm also a easy customer on that box, I don't ever hit up support unless there's an issue with a pipe going down or hardware failing. That box also does well under the monthly transport limit. I'm sure I'm a profitable customer :1orglaugh

ContentPimp 10-12-2009 11:58 PM

Webair has $99 dollars for managed, but you can get root and manage it yourself if you want! Talk to Gerard of course :)

CYF 10-13-2009 01:05 AM

I've decided to upgrade the server and have found a provider.

Thanks everyone for your replies and suggestions :thumbsup
