If you owned SEX.COM ...
... what would you do with it?
I didn't get to the party last week (fuck), but since it's been in a few topics lately I started wondering. PayPerClick SE sounds like a lot of work, but it must make some coin. I read that in the heyday (when the other guy had the domain) it made like 400K monthly as a banner/link farm. I'm lazy and old. I'd probably sell it on eBay tomorrow. :winkwink: |
If I owned sex.com I'd make a bunch of niche paysites and link to them... fuck pay per click. :)
|
I'd get a TGP that'd convert better than sex.com traffic :glugglug
|
i run xxx.com and i've done both models. we've found that the payperclick search engine is the most profitable model.
|
hehe, seven, we tried that one too but once again...ppc was better by a long shot!
|
Gary makes major bling bling and he's had and has a lot of other things besides Sex.com that most people don't know about. He's one of the sharpest guys in the biz. If you've ever seen his background bio its very impressive.

BTW ... I DO own sex.com |
let's see your resume!!:thumbsup

Me personally would have the most kickass paysite known to man...I probably wouldnt make as much as what its worth but I would be king!:winkwink:
|
Gary don't be so modest. Post the link for the one on KFP. That'll leave a few mouths wide open here LOL.

Not as good as registering Sex.com for free in 1995 like the real Gary, but not bad for propoganda's sake. Don't make me out you any more as I can ask you any number of questions to prove my point - Just go away. |
clickpimp, u want me to get him banned?
please please :Graucho :BangBang: :( |
If i owned sex.com i'd give tons and tons of free porn
|
That's too funny. OK if this is the real Gary you'll be able to write 3 letters that correlate and give meaning to this number 570-6434.
|
I would still be crying after the other guy stole it and with my luck I would have never got it back, but if I owned it now, it would be the homesite for my sexually stimulating escorts.:)

The ppc model ain't bad for longevity in this biz. Traffic is damn important. Controlling geographically targeted adult traffic and selling it by the click will be more and more important the stricter visa (etc) gets, and the more international traffic comes online.
How many of you convert 1:000 or worse? Do you suck or is it that 98% of your clicks come from India and Pakistan. However, I would definitely have a CPA (read: bannerfarm) area, and I'd shoot content ALL day EVERY day at that fucking mansion. Jesus, not having a content biz for sex.com is crazy for the shear fun that could be had... not to mention the PPC SE traffic you could send :Graucho |
What would I do with sex.com? The possibilities are endless.
1. IF I followed the PPC model that is currently in place I'd also start up TGP.SEX.COM. The better traffic from the TGP would filter into the PPC area. 2. Or I'd look into making endless pay sites: teen.sex.com plumpers.sex.com bbw.sex.com mature.sex.com gofuckyourself.sex.com :) tranny.sex.com gay.sex.com etc... 3. A combination of all these might even work with the right design and marketing. 4. Sell the domain name for multiple millions. |

A full page ad for Cyberthrill would bring in mad $$$.

If i owned sex.com I would lay on the beach of my private island and ask if they can move my boats a bit out of the way because they're spoiling my view.

Everyone has it. |
Yeah I would make 2 sites for every niche and feed them. You would think the traffic quality would be great. The first thing people do when they get online is go to sex.com. I did.
I've always wondered how he got the domain. Were you just the first one in line? What the fuck? |
Marco - nice try, but no its not a phone number. If that was the real Gary he would have posted easily to what that number means. And its not a phone number btw. Its a number that Gary would recognize instantly since it has significant meaning to one of his non-adult business holdings.
So that dude appears to be an imposter, not the real Gary everyone just for the record. |

Sounds like a personal issue. |
I actually had this question posed to me when Gary first took back the control of the domain. At the time I had access to some information to help come up with a business model for the domain such as traffic totals, banner displays and CTR's and revenue generated.
I had alot on my plate and didn't take the job but did toss out a few ideas based on the limited amount of infomation I had been given in respect for the direction the Kremlin team wanted to go with the domain. I felt that they had already decided the direction they were going to take with the domain and were looking for people who agreed with that decision. I didn't want to be in the position of moving one direction for people who thought we should be moving in another direction. A "yes man" is something I've never been accused of being! I'd heard good things about Gary and from my limited time of talking to his team think he'd be a great guy to do business with. As far as the domain - well, it's going to make money. Anyone with this particular domain couldn't help but generate revenue. The real question is how much revenue is being left on the table and in my opinion - the new Sex.com leaves quite a bit. In this business - there aren't any doggy-bags. For simple revenue generation without any care for an increase in traffic - Cohen had the better business model. A simple banner farm with limited overhead for bandwith and someone to sell the banner slots but even Cohen left a nice chunck of change on the table - but he didn't seem to care about that so that business model worked well for him. From my conversation with the Kremlin crew - growth was a very big part of their plan and a wise choice I might add. The domain could be so much more - but I don't see the changes for growth potential in place yet. (Even with the new layout/design and ppc search engine model). The front page SCREAMS for more revenue opportunities. Right now there are only 3 links at the top of the page and a side banner/text link position to generate revenue. I'd be willing to bet the CTR for those lnks are less than 8% of total traffic. The rest of the real estate is reserved for category and sub category sections of the ppc business model. Yes, those links take you to money but it doesn't guarantee that those clicks will generate revenue. Since the results are strictly ppc results most descriptions include a "join" price. If the user doesn't click on any links - there isn't anything there to generate revenue or traffic increase opportunities. In laymans terms - there aren't any value added search results. The ppc model works if you backfill the results with free results as well. Only 10 results (on a page with 20 results) should be ppc results. Sex.com should have in place a system for traffic exchange with other websites where a webmaster is awared a certain $ value to his traffic and he gets placed higher in the results based on his "bank" total. In theory, a free website sending traffic in can have his link in the #2 spot for any keyword he chooses right along with the paid results. When a surfer clicks on the results links - half the results are free sites with free porn. That makes a value added ppc search engine. They should also backfill results from other mainstream results so every search has 150+ results. Sex.com doesn't produce any results for non adult search terms. Again, not every surfer is looking for "in your face porn" but that doesn't mean you can't generate revenue from them. Partner with a mainsteam company to provide those results. This is just a quick rundown of some simple changes I'd make immediately. There is so much more that could be done but hey, I get paid to do this kinda stuff. If you're going to do the ppc model there HAS to be value added results where everything doesn't cost money or you lose repeat traffic - which for a free porn site may not be required - but is essential for ppc business models. If I had to gamble, I'd bet sex.com hasn't seen a 15% increase in traffic in the 19 months it's been since I've seen the stats and I'd bet again that it's not generating 65% of the revenue it generated 19 months ago either. actually, that would make him a freaking genius :winkwink: seven: keep up the good work! we'll just be over here serving up geo-IP, language, niche, term, and bid filtered traffic to those who have better luck with targeted traffic vs. tgp. i'm sorry your experience with us was not a productive one. hit me up sometime for sheits and gigs and maybe we can see what many of the clients who do make money with our traffic do that you may have overlooked. there are many, many examples. |

very insightful post Bama! :) we actually have made significant progress in several of these areas, including www.galaxysearch.com a mainstream engine fed by other ppc using adult results as leverage. we also backfill results form several other ppc, and syndicate our results. progress not perfection :winkwink: |
stuff it up with ads, or make a paysite
|
I would do what busty-amateurs.com is doing now.. :Graucho
|
See, what other biz can you think of where you can just be chatting away and say 'what would you do if you owned it' and the guy that does own it pops in.
Lets all try it. 'What would you do if you owned Microsoft?' Is that Bill i see logging in? |
