Math Puzzle For GFY Wizards

Bill can mow the lawn in 6 minutes. His brother Jim can mow it in 9 minutes. How long will it take them to do it together, if each has his own lawnmower?

Here's another one...

Billy is twice as old as Sally was when Billy was as old as Sally is now. And the total of their ages is 28. How old are they?

How wide is the mower deck? Push mowers, walk-behinds, tractors, zero-turns?

How many SQ FT turf area on the lot?

I whois'd your domain and went by general statistics for your area and came up with this.

5

possible 7 if one of them are unfamiliar with the mower they are given

I have to admit, pepperoni is definitely my favorite pizza.

Are the lawnmowers equal? Are they going to fight over who mowed more? We need more info! :)

bill. 1lawn = 6mins
jim. 1lawn = 9mins

bill 1/6(.16 or 16%) of lawn in 1min
jim 1/9(.11 or 11%) of lawn in 1min

add that together to find out how much of the lawn they both did in 1min.

.27 or 27.6% in 1min.

100/27.6 x 1min = 3.62min. (3mins 37 secs)

In one minute, Bill mows 1/6 of the lawn, and Jim mows 1/9. T/6+T/9=1 (the whole lawn). We then solve for T. We can accept fractions of a minute, or minutes and seconds (with fractions of a second).

In other words; I have no idea what the final answer is...

Sally is S years old; Billy is B years old. Billy was once S years old. How long ago was that? It was B-S years ago. How old was Sally then? She was S-(B-S) or 2S-B years old then. Billy is now twice that old: B = 2(2S-B) = 4S-2B or 3B = 4S. And we also know that S+B=28. We have two equations and two unknowns, we can probably solve for S and B. Sally is 12 and Billy is 16.
