Any downside to encoding in h264/mp4 format?
 

Is there any potental downside to encoding in members videos in h264/mp4 format?

I would think h264/mp4 would be pretty well received as Windows media player supports it out of the box and it's Apple friendly too.

The reason I am asking as we recently got a blazing fast new I7 encoding rig, but the WMV codec on Vegas 8 is not multi threaded and is slow. Mp4 encodes like a rocket.

no reason not to. flash also supports h264 as well.

files don't stream unless you do a little magic on them. some encoding programs can do that automatically. look for "move MOOV to beginning of the file".
