I was thinking that, got a nice domain for this type of service.

What kind of bandwidth does a re-direct use? I bet it's pretty damn low

How much info is passed to tinyurl when people redirect?

Basic_man 10-18-2009 05:35 PM

BW, very low !

Server load.. very high !

Its all about the number of HTTP requests with redirect services.

I used to have one.

It really depends on how much it gets used, and what it is used for.

Thats the same with any site though?

You'd have to think that it'd be using some bandwidth, even though it's a simple HTTP request and a redirect, there's a lot of people using it, a lot of times.

Probably a few megabit, nothing too insane though.

I bet they take some DDoS tho'.

True. However, I mean it would depends on it's use, or how wide spread. For example, if you are using it for images on mass. That would have a lot higher usage in regards to BW than say, a domain on some site you are selling. That is what I was referring to.

Yes. Common sense usage applies to the any website to the degree you are inferring it.

Miniscule

Not much bw, server load is ridonkulous. I have one running the script from http://yourls.org/

It's good for gathering info on who is clicking what and from where.
