Yes, it's quite easy. Many mobile programs offer mobile detection scripts. I know we offer it in Java, php and htaccess. It's relatively simple to implement and only takes a few minutes.

It's best to subdomain your mobile site to mobile.sitename.com to avoid any search engine listing issues.
