Car Insurance Rates to Rise in GTA
Full Story
Drivers in the GTA are facing a major hike in their car insurance rates the next time they renew their policy, reports say. Ten insurance companies serving drivers in Ontario have been cleared to increase their rates, according to the Toronto Star. Their policyholders will be hit with premium hikes averaging between 11 and 19 per cent when it's time to renew. The average driver for the GTA is likely to pay nearly 14 per cent more -- with some seeing about 30 per cent hike, the newspaper says. Insurance companies are seeing an increasing demand for treatment and compensation, says the Insurance Bureau of Canada. Premier Dalton McGuinty says compared to the cost of living, the rates are ?pretty good.. He says insurance is lower today than it was when he was first elected into office six years ago. Reports say some insurers have been allowed to raise rates a second or third time in 12 months. |

I was in Toronto 2 weeks ago for just the weekend..Funny you should say this, I saw two people exit off the expressway at literally the last second, one guy was on the grass and we got cut off 3-4 times by people not looking when changing lanes. I was on the road for maybe 20 minutes the entire time so that's pretty bad.
Toronto is pretty cool though, they were doing a shitload of construction everywhere. |
I hate driving in the GTA already, I can't imagine if I had to live there and pay 30%+ on insurance rates and deal with the daily traffic grind. But still, 3 hikes in a single year?! That's insane.

Everytime I drive in GTA I end up wrecking my car but you know what I do? I just jump out and I either jack the car I just crashed into (if it's better than mine) or I go running for a bit and break into another car that looks just like mine and take that one, then I punch it and tear off until I wreck again... no wonder insurance rates are climbing. It's a good thing there is the medical help there is there because if they added up all the times I got shot and died, I probably wouldn't be able to get health insurance at all!!!

My 135i BMW in B.C. costs me like $1600 a year to insure. Peanuts.

It's a 3.0 twin turbo. Peppy, 6 speed, fun as fuck to drive. Fairly small car as I live downtown and I only use it for errands, dates, gym, and other short trips. |
You guys beat me to all the jokes you bastages.
Now all I need is my fat European cousin to want to crash at my pad for a few months. |

Same B.S here too Brian, with the exception that some insurance companies are on the 3rd rate increase all authorized by the Liberal Goverment of Ontario.
Dalton is working hard to bankrupt this Provence and it looks like its working. Don't for get rates go up 8% in July 2010 as the new HST will be added taking the tax from 5% to 13%. So I guess as a backroom deal for keeping their collective mouths shut about that they get a piece of the pie as well. Just tell good old Toronto to vote that idiot in again next election. |
