Wordpress on-page SEO question

If my goal was to rank my pictures category for key word "porn pictures" what would be the best link structure?

http://www.domain.com/porn/pictures
http://www.domain.com/category/porn-pictures

Unfortunately wordpress does not allow me to do http://www.domain.com/porn-pictures as my category

fris 10-21-2009 02:43 PM

you can do porn-pictures

Yes it does. Go into your permalinks and add "/." (without quotes) to your category structure.

I found a plugin that allows you to manually edit the link structure but it does not work well on the new version of WP

fris 10-21-2009 02:44 PM

how are you entering the category name?

Trying that now.

Edit: Damn that worked perfect. Thanks so much!

the permalinks option in wordpress is what you need

UniqueMovies 10-21-2009 02:57 PM

I just noticed it shows the "/." in my sitemap but when I hover my mouse over the link it looks just fine.

http://www.domain.com/./porn-pictures

Go to permalinks in your settings and just add the following:

If you want postname:
/%postname%/

If you want category:
/%category%/

If you want both:
/%category%/%postname%/

I do that already. The question I asked is different.

sorry you've lost me.

You want the category "porn pictures" in your permalinks?

Example url.com/porn-pictures/ ?

I want to remove the /category/ from my wordpress category url. Were not talking about post urls.

Category Name: Porn Pictures
Category Slug: porn-pictures

Si 10-21-2009 03:45 PM

I just done it on a domain and it worked.

Example: berichblog.com/porn-pictures/ is the category. and is working if you copy/paste it.

permalinks are set to: /%category%/%postname%/

In categories i done:

Name: porn pictures
and left the "slug" empty but you could do porn-pictures to be sure.

make sure you have a post in there aswell or it might not display.

Si 10-21-2009 03:47 PM

If you done the above and it still ain't working then I'm lost lol

UniqueMovies 10-21-2009 04:12 PM

Ever since I added "/." to the category base I get a 404 for the page2 page3 etc for each category.

http://www.domain.com/porn-pictures/page/2

It would be nice to remove the "page" and just have it http://www.pegginghusband.com/pegging-pictures/2

just delete the blog and start over maybe.

delete your .htaccess

create a new one, give it proper permissions

try again

UniqueMovies 10-21-2009 04:32 PM

I found the solution.

This wordpress plugin just solved all my issues.

Using /. in your structure is not a very wise move.

Just use WP NO Category Base.
