namecheap DOWN today - scheduled maintenance

Namecheap is doing backend upgrades today. Dns will work fine, but their link to the registry will be down from 6pm PT until 2am tonight. That means no new registrations, transfers or renewals.

Take care of your stuff before or after, I just know someone is gonna post a pissed off thread about it later so I wanted to give everyone a heads up :thumbsup

This happens in a couple hours, take care of your new registrations / transfers / renewals now.

namecheap seems to always be having downtime for one reason or another. weird setup they run that causes that to happen.

They are/were/still ar kind of.... an enom reseller.

They are now also an actual registrar.

It's probably more to do with them integrating their own system into place than anything else, or changing to a stand-alone registrar system.

Either way, namecheap's service and support is worth any minor problems along the way, and atleast they warn you about it and help you through any negative problems. Not just go ahead with it and leave you wondering WTF is going on like some companies.

:2 cents:

Yeah, they are an enom reseller, but they're working on their own backend because they are a stand-alone registrar now just like godaddy, enom, etc. As soon as the backend is done they won't be using enom anymore.

Not sure if the downtime yesterday was them putting that new backend in place or not.
