Unhappy with Moniker.com domain registry

I tried to transfer out a domain and was informed my transfer code didn't work and domain locked. Since I was transferring out of my account, I knew this was not the case. When I called 800 number for customer service, I got some lady in India who, I think, said she was going to email somebody that I was having a problem.........:disgust

Not at all encouraging.

amateurcanada 10-24-2009 11:39 AM

Its very common to outsource your 1800 numbers to countries that are far cheaper then the US. This could be the case.

We have used namecheap before with good service.

CYF 10-24-2009 02:56 PM

did you unlock the domain first before you tried to transfer it?

+1 for NameCheap :thumbsup they have live support that is always available and helpful.

I haven't had any issues with DynaDot either, dont use them as much as namecheap tho.

PornMD 10-24-2009 03:08 PM

They are outsourcing some of their phone support during busy hours. I had an exact same experience with one of those outsourced support people too - absolutely no help whatsoever, which meant a waste of my time. At least if I was on hold I could do something else on the computer while waiting. IMO a very bad decision on their part. I haven't seen anyone having a GOOD experience with one of those outsourced support people.

baddog 10-24-2009 04:44 PM

Moving from Moniker was the hardest domain moves I have ever done. Slowest too. Took a couple weeks.

CaptainHowdy 10-24-2009 05:37 PM

Good to know :Oh crap...

Redrob 10-24-2009 08:45 PM

I got an email from them with a list of instructions to move the domain. I'll read it tomorrow when I feel like fucking with a list of things to do.

Hey, at least i got a list.....

jrzeygirl 10-25-2009 06:42 AM

RedRob

I'm sorry for the inconvenience you may have had however transferring a domain out/away from Moniker is easy. All you need to do is log into your account, select the domain and click the blue transfer out button. The EPP code is emailed to you automatically to the email address on file.

If you're still running into issues, email directly at [email protected] and I will help you.

Thanks!

Use NameCheap
period

plus is the only domain registar that provides 24/7 live chat support
(for me much better than phone support, since I hate talking over the phone
with reps from India and Philipines :)

San 10-25-2009 07:43 AM

Moniker jumped the shark a couple years ago.

Moving domains away from them is a nightmare.

Si 10-25-2009 08:25 AM

+however many we are up to for namecheap :thumbsup

And +1 for dynadot.

I use Namecheap for the majority of my domains, they are always extremely helpful when you need to contact them (which is rare) and they are much easier to use than any other registrar.

DynaDot are also really good. the prices may start higher than most othr registrars but if you spend over $500 a year with them you get a pretty decent discount :)

quantum-x 10-25-2009 09:09 AM

Just moved 300 domains from namecheap.

Moniker has icq support too, just hit up Bari, and she will solve any issues you may have... :2 cents:

Why would anyone want to move domains away from Moniker? They are the best registrar, IMO.

I hope you are joking for your sake. That is one of the worst registrars I have ever dealt with.

Brujah 10-27-2009 12:41 AM

Fabulous is a great registrar.

Not sure why anyone would trust their business/livelyhood on a "compane" ran by a few people on gfy ? no real live contacts ...hummmm doesn't seem like a very smart business move to me.:2 cents: I'm not saying anything bad directly to moniker, but just the whole no real contact thing seems like a bad move.:2 cents:

Can't the Moniker support handle the issue? Isn't that the point of it?

Or are you the only support agent and you don't check your own ticket system?

I'm not in support area51 I'm in sales. Yes, Moniker support can handle the issue however given the fact he stated that it hadn't been resolved yet I was offerring to assist.

webair 11-01-2009 04:54 PM

Learn to read the warning signs.

Redrob 11-02-2009 08:28 PM

Another day and no transfer. Customer support must be really shitty or way behind.

Next time I'll break out my Hindi dictionary when I speak with their customer support.

Maybe, I will contact Bari in sales if nothing happens by tomorrow morning. I realize that it is really not her problem and I do appreciate her taking an interest in support's lack of timely response to my transfer request.

Jake 11-02-2009 08:39 PM

Yeah, I remember back in the day when Monte personally took my calls. Things sure have changed over there, and not for the better.

He posted some reasons, kept updating the reason. Yet you post that? You are almost mister predictable when it comes to things. You always kiss ass in certain company threads, you always have your spam list ready, and of course your republican friends are always the best and can never do any wrong.

Rubbish. I own thousands of domains and have ample experience with registrars. I don't need to kiss anyone's ass.

Republicans make plenty of mistakes. They try to inject too much religion and private morality into politics, for starters.

But, you don't see the level of institutional corruption that has plagued the Dems. And, the Republicans have great core values of low taxes, small government, and government accountability --although they frequently stray.

In my experience, Moniker has the best pricing, customer service, and security.

HandballJim 11-02-2009 10:12 PM

I think their website needs work, I get confused just trying to figure out how to get my domains linked to a host...you hit accept, and your not sure if it worked or not. :2 cents:

Their FAQ tells you to change DNS, but I really needed to change the IP address instead.

Iron Fist 11-02-2009 10:21 PM

I'm sorry . . . customer service? If not for Bari it appears to be non-existent. She is Moniker's Michael O. :2 cents:
