CYF 10-25-2009 09:23 PM

DateDoc 10-25-2009 09:25 PM

i was writing my thread while you were doing this one. Choopa is down here.

Adam_M 10-25-2009 09:26 PM

They had a power outage.

Been online to the techs at choopa and they are working on it now.

Barefootsies 10-25-2009 09:27 PM

Yep. It's down.

I was uploading clips for a client's tube pay site and have not been able to log in for the past hours. konrad just checked on his end, and same thing.

Appears DNS is down he said.

:Oh crap

DateDoc 10-25-2009 09:33 PM

Power outage? Surely they have generators and are not like 365 Main when they didn't have enough diesel (or whatever other excuse they came up with) for theirs and took down CL, hahahahahahahahahaha et al for a good while.

k0nr4d 10-25-2009 09:33 PM

looks like DNS is down

DateDoc 10-25-2009 09:35 PM

hahahahahahahahahaha wow u cannot write t e c h n o r a t i on gfy?

I doubt it would be a generator problem..:2 cents:

backman1 10-25-2009 10:05 PM

Still off to me...

trevesty 10-25-2009 10:31 PM

Yep.. they had a power outage. Our sites are down as well. :(

45 minutes ETA so I hear..

Dirty Dane 10-25-2009 10:35 PM

How many are hosted with them? Many sites are down for me.

rowan 10-25-2009 10:48 PM

Are any other hosts affected by this? One of my servers at a host in NJ (which is where Choopa seem to be, so possibly in the same D/C?) is unreachable.

Pink Panther 10-25-2009 11:03 PM

Back online

Tru 10-25-2009 11:05 PM

We have a server with a host in NJ, not Choopa, and we've been down for hours. :Oh crap

Oliver Klozov 10-26-2009 02:27 AM

Still down!!!

Some server are up but still others are down!

Pushing 5 hours now and even worse tech support is no longer answering phones.

When the tech said they "had a power outage" I asked what about generators or battery back-up, he said that it was "more complicated than that" and that an email would go out explaining what happened.

The problem with the 'NJ host' was caused by a fried router. It only affected a few servers, mine included. :(

Anya 10-26-2009 05:34 AM

Still down for me. This is ridiculous. :disgust

Anya

SmokenCess 10-26-2009 05:40 AM

Is everyone so stupid that they just assume they don't have a generator in place?

SmokenCess 10-26-2009 06:23 AM

this shit is fucked up man

Oliver Klozov 10-26-2009 07:03 AM

Still down!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now pushing 10 hours of downtime!!

Called tech support 15 times last night with no answer!

Just called and someone actually answered the phone! He said he was not a tech just an "administrative assistant" and that no one was awake yet, and if my servers were still down I needed to open a ticket because they "didn't know what servers where down and which ones were back up"

WTF sort of operation are they running over there? They don't know? I need to tell them my servers are down?

Closing my account this week and so glad to be leaving Choopa!!!

LoveSandra 10-26-2009 07:12 AM

see my sig

Oliver Klozov 10-26-2009 07:13 AM

Oliver Klozov [7:06 AM]:
Anyone awake over there???
Oliver Klozov [7:06 AM]:
You still have servers down!!!
Choopa NOC [7:06 AM]:
We are trying to get this all resolved
Oliver Klozov [7:06 AM]:
10 fucking hours?
Oliver Klozov [7:07 AM]:
Are you a tech or just someone that is answering ICQ's?
Choopa NOC [7:08 AM]:
a tech
Choopa NOC [7:08 AM]:
the power issue affected the whole dc
Choopa NOC [7:08 AM]:
so we had to get maintenance people to look into it
Choopa NOC [7:08 AM]:
that's the reason for the long downtime
Choopa NOC [7:08 AM]:
we are still trying to get all this sorted out
Choopa NOC [7:08 AM]:
please bare with us
Oliver Klozov [7:09 AM]:
So what about generators and battery back ups?
Choopa NOC [7:09 AM]:
i'm not to fully aware of what they have in place, but i believe the issue caused the same problem
Choopa NOC [7:10 AM]:
for the generators

directfiesta 10-26-2009 07:31 AM

wow .... power issue is BS, unless the box is in your basement ...:2 cents:

As for outage, I was to upload the finished site of http://www.cgrelectronique.ca/

Cannot reach the server/site/ftp : It is " under maintenance " ...

That started Friday 3:00 PM and was a " planned " operation ... as per their email :

Quote:

Tristan-Matthieu Robichaud
Directeur Technique pour iScream.Net
Seems like they were upgrading the Plesk version ....

Since I have 2 lawyers and one eal estate site to finish, his site is going at the bottom of the pile .....

Off time till now : 60 hours ..... :Oh crap

kristin 10-26-2009 09:59 AM

www.RedTube.com is up and going. ; )

CYF 10-26-2009 11:41 AM

sites still down?

Oliver Klozov 10-26-2009 01:54 PM

Back up now 13 hours of down time!!!

Tech said that they don't have monitoring on all servers so they had no way to know which servers needed to be rebooted.

Funny how now one of the sales guys is trying to play it off with.......

"Yea we had a power disruption in one of our datacenters taking down some customers for a bit, if you left a voicemail sorry I havent got to it my phones loaded up right now with a ton of them."

Since when is 13 hours a bit?

Agent 488 10-26-2009 01:59 PM

dreamhost ftw!!!

fryer 10-26-2009 02:04 PM

choopa is off. We had some servers go down last night. I'm sure they're working hard to get their issue resolved.

LeRoy 10-26-2009 03:04 PM

I hear Choopa has great prices.

So that's 3 people taken out by the NJ issue... maybe it affected more than we're thinking. :2 cents:

Luckily my server isn't in production yet, but a 3-4 hour outage a couple of days after I get the server is a bit of a shaky start. :(

Abbie 10-26-2009 04:50 PM

all but one of our servers is now up. Of course its the one that houses OHC :) hehe

Sin_Vraal 10-26-2009 06:33 PM

Anyone who says power is an easy thing to do... is an idiot.

Generators fail, ups explode (they really do), copper wire explodes from metal fatigue. not to sound crazy... but power failure is a sign of success... why? because people are using yoru service!

what about proper maintenance? Still happens.

While I am prone to giggling over the downtime as well... and despite really not liking them at all for our own personal reasons.... shit happens.

The bottomline is this:
unless you spent a mint on datacenter, your shit is going down at some point.
not going down will prolly cost you double at least. :2 cents:

My bad

I always looked at Choopa as a cheap host cuz they've spammed their services on the boards.

split_joel 10-26-2009 07:13 PM

This is why we own our own data center now because when you colocate in someone's else building it becomes a nightmare. Anyways best of luck to choopa and their customers.

To add even more wobble, the replacement router or some related part caused maximum throughput to drop to 0.5Mbps

This is NOT a good start...

SeizeTheDomain 10-30-2009 12:31 AM

Tough break

Your guys and gals unfortunate situation caused me to ask my web guy, could that happen to any of our sites hosted at Dedico?

I now have the piece of mind of knowing that we are being hosted in a sas70 type-II facility with 100% power and cooling uptime SLA.

Can someone translate that into english for me? :winkwink:

TidalWave 10-30-2009 01:01 AM

English: No datacenter is immune from downtime.

rowan 10-30-2009 05:53 AM

100% SLA sounds good, but it's not much use getting credited a couple of hundred bucks in hosting fees when your immediate and future losses because of any incident could work out to be significantly more.

Depending on your sites and setup it may be possible to have a "warm spare" server or VPS image sitting at another host, ready for activation at short notice.

Ive had my Equinix Cage for 7 Years and still going Strong, never had any kind of power issue. I pay a premium for this and im more than glad to pay the extra to have peace of mind.

The Halsey building has always had power issues, so its no surprise about Choopa going down
