is the word "homo" offensive for the gay niche?

Serious question, in terms of domain names is the word "homo" offensive?

AudreyG 10-27-2009 12:01 PM

Nope. Not offensive. Depending on what other words you will include in your domain of course.

fatfoo 10-27-2009 12:03 PM

Probably not offensive. The only thing that's offensive is to call a straight man a homo.

dial 10-27-2009 12:04 PM

not offensive, just rarely used anymore

Ditosta 10-27-2009 12:15 PM

Thanks for the feedback

Topbuxom Lea 10-27-2009 12:19 PM

Not offensive.....

and you can take that right 'straight' from your lesbo industry peer :winkwink:

Agent 488 10-27-2009 12:37 PM

there was a good thread about it at boy alley's old gay forum. much different answers you get from actual gay webmasters.

Raf1 10-27-2009 12:40 PM

I don't think it's that offensive, but I wouldn't use it when marketing in the gay niche.

Do you have a link? I would love to hear some more feedback from Gay webmasters

CaptainHowdy 10-27-2009 12:45 PM

Just don't use it along the words "kill" or "erase"...

I don't agree. We've reclaimed that word kind of like we've reclaimed queer. Used properly, it doesn't have any negative connotations anymore. Totally safe to sue in a marketing campaign in my opinion.

Agent 488 10-27-2009 01:02 PM

oddly enough i also read a thread at the same board where people were offended by "queer" which i found surprising.

i guess there is no hard and fast answer and as many opinions and people.

A gay guy I was talking to said "People don't even think I sound gay." I told him "You sound pretty gay to me."

He was pissed.

as long as the site is not offensive, homo is OK (but not the best choice) for a gay site

seeandsee 10-27-2009 01:08 PM

if you are then ok :D

Serious question here, too. How about the word "fag" ?

closer 10-27-2009 02:45 PM

homo = ok
queer = ok
queen(s) = ok
fag(ot) = nok
