Some people won't leave their homes.. some people won't even get out of bed. To many it's just another Friday.

What's Friday the 13th to you? Any bad experiences?

Not superstitious here... though I do own black cats.

If I ever knew, I have forgotten the legend behind Friday the 13th. I do not feel like doing a search, so can someone clue me in as to why Friday the 13th is supposed to be a bad luck day?

Its origins can be traced to Norse mythology and a dinner party at Valhalla, home of the god Odin, where Odin and 11 of his closest god-friends were gathered one night to party. Everyone was having fun, but then Loki, the dastardly god of evil and turmoil, showed up uninvited, making it a crowd of 13. The beloved god Balder tried to boot Loki out of the house, the legend goes, and in the scuffle that followed he suffered a deathblow from a spear of mistletoe.

Part of the Friday-the-13th legend is a particularly bad Friday the 13th that occurred in the middle ages. On a Friday the 13th in 1306, King Philip of France burned the revered Knights Templar at the stake, marking the occasion as a day of evil.

From that mythological start, the number 13 has plowed a path of devastation through history. There were 13 people at Christ's Last Supper, including the double-crossing Judas Iscariot. The ill-fated Apollo 13 lunar mission left the launching pad at 13:13 hours and was aborted on April 13. Friday hasn't been much kinder to us. Friday was execution day in ancient Rome -- Jesus was crucified on a Friday. Put it all together, and Friday the 13th spells trouble for triskaidekaphobics. It's a testament to the phobia's prevalence that Hollywood was able to parlay our fear into a hugely successful series of slasher movies starring a hockey-masked guy named Jason.

I was never really superstitious, but since i was born on the 13th i was told that the bad luck was reversed for me. However, tonite i was driving through manhattan @ 1am when i got pulled over going 69 in a 35 by the 1 of the biggest asshole cops i've yet to meet. Being that my license is already restricted, the cop was blatantly clear when he said I was going to loose my license. Shortly after that i cut my thumb on a cigar cutter. Its now 5am and i will soon be making my trip home. I'm sleepy, in pain, and pissed about my license, what a way to start off my birthday :feels-hot

I have to get on a plane in a few hours...luckily I'm not superstitious. But I HATE flyin' anyways, so.....

My brother was born on a Friday the 13th back in 1970. He's a happy guy and lives a good life. I've never had anything bad enough to remember happen to me on a Friday the 13th either so I pretty much see it as just any other Friday.

Now I've said this, the Friday the 13th imps will strike me down.:winkwink:

I was born on the 13th... my first birthday was on a Friday the 13th hehe.

Its always been a great day for me, any Friday the 13th.

yeah I pretty much agree that it is just another friday (mind you NEXT friday is my b-day). Mind you, i'm not going to go doing anything risky.

When I was a travel agent there were loads of cheap flights available on Friday the 13th because people just wouldn't fly. I had one guy pay an extra $200 a ticket just to fly the day after because his wife wouldn't get on the plane on the 13th.

so am I.

13 is a good luck number to many people; in china, in judaism and in islam.

so many disasters, murders, terror attacks, tragedies and deaths hapenned on non-friday-the-13 days that it kind of make this superstition lame.
