INTEL 2.4GHZ "MP" processors... Need information..

What is the big deal about the xeon "MP"??
It's supposedly got 2mb of cache per processor... but the bus is only 400mhz?! And it's a 2.4...
This guy wants $75 for two 2.4ghz Intel MP processors and the dual proc board..
I NEED to know about these, I'm so curious, google says they're hexacore? Say what? Six cores? Octo is eight, right .. hex is six? SIX CORES?!!

Look it, this server made a GOOD SOLID home office PC with two 2.4 xeons with 512k cache... and 533mhz... Will these MPs be ALOT FASTER?

$75 sounds cheap.

Yeah
Well
I pay a fraction of what consumers do.. for everything... but this does seem to be a little TOO good..... should I be worried about the 400mhz bus?

Its an old CPU MP just means it can run on a dual cpu board nothing more there was a time Intel sold xeon cpu's that would not run on a dual cpu board.

What your buying is a 3-4 year old cpu from what i remember.

do you really think something is selling you cpu's that are not old for $75 ?

lol

Obviously they're old.. 400mhz bus for chrissakes
BUT I thought if they were hexacore or some shit it might be a little newer..
This is just what I wanted to know..
Thank you ..

Me getting something worth hundreds for $75 would NOT be unusual, though, believe that.

Thats some old shit. Don't buy it, even for that price.

Just get new shit and don't be a cheap ass.

Actually, if you went out and bought the lowest end stuff right now, it would still be faster than that dinosaur.

Why would you buy computer equipment that old? What ever money you save will get eaten up by your electric bill very quickly. Not to mention the performance. New computer equipment is already crazy cheap if you buy the right stuff.

That is a wise consideration
However,
My power bill is only 50%, anyway, cause like I said I don't pay what consumers do

+1

I'm currently looking at migrating a couple of my standard servers to a super low power Atom cluster. I've worked out the payback period (capital cost of upgrading is covered by savings in electricity) is about 2-3 years, less if I can sell off the existing equipment for a few bucks. I would ask MrMaxwell if he's interested but the oldest CPU I have here is a Q6600, circa 2007. :1orglaugh
