why do Vbulletin forums suck so bad on mobile?

SMF which is open source does a way better job :2 cents:

(or are people doing it wrong in the settings for vbulletin?)

anyways you'd think that a paid forum in this day and age would have all bases covered and have the mobile side of things optimized as well :2 cents:

It's not supported by default but there are plenty of addons and hacks to make the forum very accessable to mobile traffic. As a matter of fact, I'm sure vBulletin would be the best premade solution for mobile traffic if modified properly.

I see, was just curious because SMF does it so well right "out of the box", and vbulletin does it so poorly "out of the box".... seems to me any fairly active forum would want to be as accessible as possible to its user base

it works fine on blackberry's and iphones etc., but try some vbulletin forums on the average cellphone web browser, it doesn't work well at all, whereas smf forums work perfectly

Works fine on my LG Tritan.

It's not really the software, but the skin... Unless you mean the software cannot detect your phone and use a lighter theme incase your phone can't handle javascript, or heavy graphics and that.

Just because you have to pay doesn't mean it's better... :2 cents:

because VBulletin has many elements defined with fixed height/width by default, while Simple Machines has all their elements defined as percentages, which is the logical way to do it. However, it's quite easy to mod it in VBulletin, at worst you'll need a little trial and error to make sure everything works fine.

All the above being said, I hate when programmers stands with 90's technology (namely "tables for everything") when using divs is way better, faster and easier to modify as you wish. I've made a couple of VB mods where I replaced as much tables as possible with divs because it was absolutely nonsensical and way too limiting to use those motherfucking tables. Sorry: I mean tables into tables into tables into tables (believe me, as ridiculous as it sounds, that's the way VB is coded)

It works fine for me.

vBulletin is getting filled with more extra useless crap every time - I'm waiting for 4.0 to be released to the public so I can digg through the sourcecode, but personally, even though I own a license, have never been a fan of vBulletin. I'm an IPB guy all the way, and to me, it's the best forum software out there on the market - why people have always been so against it beats me, so much cleaner and the admin panel rocks! More people have been moving over to IPB recently so maybe i will convert all my vB forums to IPB too. :upsidedow

most other phones I wouldn't want to surf on for anything other than emails, I love my blackberry. I had a smart phone before this and it sucked after a while
