Legal stuff - Where do go for help?

I'm currently setting up my own company and have a question about the laws of the industry (if there are any?) and the requirements?

One of the businesses I am setting up is developing and running various clubsites for a number of porn stars I have "scouted". One in particular is very keen for me to control their career in the porn industry, produce their content, sell it, etc.

My question is, if I sign up a person to be exclusive to me and my company, what paperwork do I need? Is there anywhere I can get a template for a "exclusivity" contract? Is there anything else I need?

I guess it's the same as musician and his manager or a sportsman and his agent, the fact it's adult doesn't matter, right?

Zack you will need an attorney or solicitor that really understand intellectual property and business. Even better, if you retain one that is focused on clients from the adult industry.

Don't attempt to DIY. You will FAIL sooner or later, and when it does it will wipe you out financially.

Search GFY and the other boards. There are about half a dozen that practice here in the States.

Good luck!

Are you talking about me ?? -- pornlaw ?

For Zack -- are you in England ?? If so you will need to find someone that knows the adult industry in the UK and the other European Union countries. I know a little but not enough to be helpful to you on those laws.

If you are talking US law -- drop me an email and we can talk further. michael(at)fattlegal.com

Hey guys, thanks for the advice.

I'm in the UK...

To be honest, I'm not sure there is such as thing as an adult lawyer in England... The industry here isn't like it is in the USA...

I've done some searches online but unable to find any UK Adult lawyers... :(

There's an adult industry in the UK. I spoke with another UK client about it. Its just not as well defined as in the US.

The UK has their own laws in regards to the sale of violent porn as well as selling DVDs via the internet.

Hit me up via email at michael(at)fattlegal.com and be detailed about what you need. My firm also handles music clients and we often deal with record deals and intellectual property issues in the UK and the EU. We might be able to help.

We recommend JD Obenberger. He is a regular panelist and host at all of the Adult Trade Shows, very smart, and a nice guy too. You can email him at [email protected].
