Courtesy of the link provided by DJ The Kid, the headline reads:

SnapNames: Apologies Shouldn?t Be Conditional, Especially When You Steal From Customers

Read the article. Moniker's sister company Snapnames will only refund the buyers cheated, if they sign a Release of Liability. :1orglaugh

Indeed.

Got an email from snapnames more then a week ago i think, that they fired someone and where investigating every move the guy had made. If i remember correctly they are even planning to pay back every cent to people where the rogue employee was involved in the bidding etc.?

I think in almost every auction arena not only domain auctions, that a lot of unhanded stuff takes place ..be it by the operator /seller/bidders.

Lets get real here. "Rogue employee". This is sure to have been Snapnames accepted practice. All they are doing is deferring blame to one individual. They never would of voluntarily offered to pay back the $, had it not been for the fact that they got caught.

Good I'm glad these fuckers got caught. I used to grab a lot of good domains before snap names started getting them all and doing auctions. It used to be first come first serve to an extent.

Halvarez drove bids up on ALL the auctions I've been in.

I remember going crazy being in multiple simultaneous auctions and Halvarez being in all of them driving prices up.

The old "rogue employee" excuse is not sitting well with me either, he participated in hundreds of auctions per day and seemed to know the exact valuation of each domain he was bidding on. A single individual can do that? mmm...unlikely.

Also unlikely that Snapnames wouldn't have unmasked him, he was talk about on domainers forum read by Snapnames employees for years and years.

Fuckers...:disgust

Not sure what you mean? They sent me a couple of forms. One showing what they are going to pay me and the second one I print out, sign and drop in the mail. Not sure what the big deal is?

Don't get me wrong, it is a VERY shitty situation, specially for those who lost out on good domains, but I for one think that SnapNames is going above and beyond to rectify the situation. Even adding interest to the total refund.

Verbal, you do realize that your signing that "Rebate" form means that you agree to not hold them liable for their actions. Right?

BTW, im not aiming this message just at you but to all that consider signing that Rebate/Release of Liability agreement.

How would you feel, if I broke into your house, and robbed you of your personal belongings. You would feel violated and call the police.

What if some time goes bye, and I get caught possessing your personal items. Under the circumstances, could I just come up to you and say, "My bad. Sorry about that mate. Not sure what came over me in deciding to rip you off. Why dont I just return the items to you, and call it a day. No charges or anything. Agree?

I'm not sure if that is an appropriate analogy since the domains expiring at SnapNames aren't really YOUR property yet.

Fortunately for me I never lost an auction to Halverez and my refund is very small, otherwise I would be fairly upset as well. I guess what I'm saying is that they could have probably swept this under the rug, however they (whether they have to or not) ARE dealing with the situation ... and if they TRULY didn't know about the 'rogue' employee, than we just have to deal with it and commend them for doing the right thing .. because it's gotta be costing them dearly.

Verbal, your absolutely right about the analogy not being the best, but I hope that my point did come through. The way everything reads so far, it wasn't just an employee of SnapNames but an executive. Keep in mind that Moniker, SnapNames and Oversee are not large companies that have a vast far reaching network of divisions, branches, etc.
The actions taken were for the full benefit to the company, and this "rogue" individual was being reimbursed for purchases.

You have to be kidding or you have some sort of relationship with Snapnames.

EVERYBODY knew about Halvarez.
EVERYBODY knew it was an insider.
Snapnames did NOTHING about it for years.

Even assuming he acted alone (which I don't believe for a minute, there is little doubt in my mind the rogue employee thing is a cover up.) it is gross negligence.

You can (maybe) commend Oversees for doing something about it, but not Snapnames, no way, their "negligence" cost some of us tens of thousands of Dollars

It's been a while since i was buying domains there, but i dont remember name of other bidder. But most of domains which i bought there was wasted money.
