Anyone pick up the Droid from Verizon? Thoughts? Reviews?
Droid is looking like a contender ... I've seen some good reviews online so far ... but only know one person that has bought one - and he just got it today.
I'm having a new phone itch again ... so, what's the good and the bad? |
I don't want to spend an extra $30/month
|
I played with one last weekend. I have an iphone and I think the droid is definitely a really nice phone. The features are great and the interface is easy to navigate. I don't really care for the physical keyboard though, I tried using it and just kept making typos. The virtual keyboard automatically fixes errors which I've gotten used to.
Factory installed features Camera Standard navigation Battery life go to the Droid Size Availability of apps Interface goes to the Iphone Never used any other phones, but the newer HTCs look nice too. |
I'm curious as well. Looks better than the iphone in every way.
As for Apps, honestly only like 1% of iphone apps are worthwhile, the 75K number is sort of misleading. Better network too, ATT drops calls like crazy which I thought never even happened anymore. |
I'm posting from mine right now. There are some bugs with Poop. If you like to surf then this phone is for you. 10k in apparently and growing.
|
I'm getting one in a few weeks, it sucks but I have to wait till my "upgrades" are avail or I gotta spend like $500.00 for the phone, if I wait I can get it for $199.00 ;) (AND be stuck with the V for the next 2 years lol)

I had an iPhone and canceled service after a few months. AT&T sucks balls! |

I also have a BB Curve on Sprint and I'm happy with it ... but have always had 2 phones and Verizon's service really is the best! |
I don't like the pop out or flip keyboard deals. We picked up a new BB storm 2 and bb tour last week on Verizon with buy 1 get 1 free.
|
i wish people would accept that there is no iphone killer. its like the lochness monster. everyone wants to see the monster in the lake, its just not there. won't happen. ;)
|
I don't want to pay for data, because there's wifi everywhere here. What phone is the best for connecting to wifi?

hmm well maybe you don't think this phone or that phone is a iphone killer but as a whole Android will overtake iphone ten times over in the next few years cause with android you have choices and aren't limited to one model and one carrier AT&T. I love my Android G1 and will buy another Android when I'm ready to upgrade. |

Apple is going to get raped by Android phones. There's no way they can hang with such a quality OS that also just happens to be open source.
http://www.android.com The only issue I have with the Droid is the little qwerty keyboard. That could be better but you don't have to use they keyboard if you don't want to. |
The camera works good. I meant pop3 and not poop earlier. hehe
Really fast OS. Browser is very fast. The pull out keyboard isn't the best, but a nice keyboard pops up on display if you need to use it. |
Android seems like the way to go, noticed the dropping calls problem too with at&t

and J$..will this new phone replace one of the several you carry already or be in addition to? |

Going to replace the one I have presently on Verizon. Have the BB Curve as my main phone still - but i think it's about time for an upgrade. If i go with the Droid and I'm happy with it, who knows? Maybe I'll go back to one phone again. It would be the 1st time in about 10 yrs ... but would be nice to lighten the load a bit! At least I don't have 3 anymore LOL :winkwink: |

company. There already is an Iphone killer out there, always has been. It is called the phones parent Apple themselves are the iphone killers. Quote:
Once again - sold in one place. Stuck with one company. Can not change a battery. Is based on a closed OS. All developers must be approved by the parent company. The android OS will have market share over apple by next year, if not by x-mass. Unless apple wakes the hell up and allows the phone to go with multiple providers, opens up its OS, and perhaps allows the recycle generation (they are like in their teens now) a phone that can have its battery changed. |

I'm still very happy with my iPhone but wondering how this one will play out.

I think Google's hand in all this will play out big and spreading out to many phones with many providers will only help expedite their taking market share. |
i have an iphone and apple is and always will be its own worst enemy in regards to cellphones/smart phones. If i could go back to verizon without paying a huge termination fee i would have sold my iphone a month after i bought it. Ill take reliability over looks anyday of the week. It just seems like ATT is getting worse and not better, no matter how many emails i get saying that new and improved coverage is in my area

Been looking into this or the storm2 for my next phone... Have the storm now and its DECENT...
|
The screen and picture are amazing for a phone, but the phone itself isn't all that nice in your hand. Seems cheap and the keyboard wasn't easy to use either.
Android is what is cool about these phones and you will see a TON of new phones in the next few months with Android. If you are on Verizon, check out the Droid Eris too. It's an HTC Android phone and for $99 it's the best Android deal on the market. |

clears up pretty much all the issues i had with it, so i won't be upgrading to storm 2 |
