google wave will destroy icq for webmasters?

what do you think, Imho i think icq should have been dead long time ago, its old and not very user friendly.

Google wave is great for group chatting, checking back what has been said and share pic, vid, and part of codes.

Every one should get on google wave, well as soon as its public for every one out there.

I think this would be a good step forward for us webmasters. I also see the possibilities for making money with it, or at least try to sell or keep in contact with your porn fans, I am so going marketing rape this tool till i am fat and rich. Thanks google. lol

No but serious i think it has potential, more then twitter.

Add me if you like [email protected]

JamesK 11-11-2009 07:48 AM

does anyone have an invite for this? I'd like to check it out

Agent 488 11-11-2009 07:58 AM

no on can explain it to me in three words so predict google tool graveyard for this one.

dirtymind 11-11-2009 08:06 AM

i can't send out invites, i think at least.

well wave will do great, trust me.

Babaganoosh 11-11-2009 08:06 AM

ICQ isn't user friendly? You click a name, type a message and press send. What's tough about that?

I personally see no need for Wave at all. I work alone with the exception of a few outsourced monkeys.

ADL Colin 11-11-2009 08:56 AM

We tried it. They need some kind of notification feature. Maybe something in your tray that tells you when there have been changes or something like that. As it is now it is pointless. We all just stopped using it after a few days.

I would expect they'll add some sort of notification at some point and greatly improve its usefulness. Maybe at that point we'll start using it again.

uh, part of this list isn't something webmasters need or want, the rest of it can already be done with icq.

not sure how this will destroy icq.

Lace 11-11-2009 09:09 AM

I've got a damn wave account and maybe used it once. I'm not good with change.

seeandsee 11-11-2009 09:09 AM

icq is old and robust, only good stuff is everyone have it, but we need new standard

UniqueD 11-11-2009 09:10 AM

wave is not good at all for a live conversation, its more of a leave a message kind of thing i guess, instead of an email.

u-Bob 11-11-2009 09:26 AM

1. nothing wrong with icq (miranda-im)... I can search my complete hisotry.. going back years...
2. I don't trust anything with 'google' in its name...

Sharky 11-11-2009 09:49 AM

honestly i checked out google wave and wasn't impressed.

ThumbLord 11-11-2009 09:54 AM

what u-Bob said indeed

Relentless 11-11-2009 10:02 AM

Wave is not a threat to ICQ
It is a threat to message boards

dirtymind 11-11-2009 10:30 AM

well i am not sure about message boards because they have different threads and sections and can be accessed by any one.

I don't think icq is that dead, and i am only speaking for us adult webmasters, it is not that icq is bad everything its just old, hard to share stuff, history some times disappears, and then there are the crashes.

Also its strange that webmasters hold on to something that long as we have made many innovations that are still used on the internet today. We should be used to changes.

Well its a good things we are talking about it.

dirtymind 11-11-2009 10:42 AM

o yeah btw there is a desktop client for wave that is called waver and there is also one for mac and one coming for the iphone

Bingo...

The fact that they are working on image file integration right off the hop should of given you all a big hint at what market they were targeting. :2 cents:

V_RocKs 11-11-2009 01:14 PM

When something new can import my old history file for ICQ, I will use it.

Angry Jew Cat - Banned for Life 11-11-2009 01:57 PM

There have been several far better IM applications come along since ICQ, and not one of them has bumped ICQ from the adult industry standard. This industry is stuck in the 90s...

"if it ain't broke don't fix it" :thumbsup

Killswitch - BANNED FOR LIFE 11-11-2009 02:17 PM

The problem with your logic is a: 90% of the industry thinks Google is the devil and will refuse giving Google access to anything they have, especially conversations. And b: Everyone in the industry uses ICQ so it's going nowhere.

CyberHustler 11-11-2009 02:24 PM

ICQ sucks... but I gotta use it.

I Love my ICQ:thumbsup

fatfoo 11-11-2009 03:05 PM

Icq should not die. All the porn webmasters are using it. For many years. I don't know why, but that's just the way it is.

lagcam 11-11-2009 03:21 PM

Yes, none of us should have ideas or plans that google is not party to.

bufferover 11-11-2009 03:24 PM

Don't know why people prefer icq. Skype is ten times better

I hope that Wave will be something like skype

pimpware 11-11-2009 03:28 PM

Anyone has any invite left ?

please send me [email protected]

bdld 11-11-2009 03:44 PM

i still prefer email.

That's the same feedback from everyone.. they probably have something in mind ;)

Fob 11-11-2009 06:15 PM

they seem to be trying to promote wave big time. It doesn't sound all that useful to me. A bunch of features I'll never use...

lol at googlewave .. I sent out 20 invites .. just opened it again because of this thread ( after a weeks or so ) and I have another 30 invites to dole out if anyone wants one ..funny thing is if you want to talk to me and get one .. you'll have to use ICQ MSN or AIM to contact me ...HAHAH..

Personally at this point I don't see any reason to use it myself .. no notifications yet .. so glorified email if you ask me ...

ICQ ..AIM .. MSN .. Yahoo... IRC ... etc .. all at once in Trillan or Adium and I am set .. messengers are quicker .. to the point and exactly what I have used for that past million yrs .. I am not ready to do business on the wave yet ... to slow so far ..

PenisFace 11-12-2009 12:08 AM

ICQ is the most retarded method of correspondence ever. It's shitty and bloated and sucks hairy hole.

Why the webmaster community hasn't used a simpler less bullshit prone program is beyond me. As soon as someone says ICQ me, I say fuck no and never speak to them again :pimp

baddog 11-12-2009 12:28 AM

This is one of those joke threads, right?

Are you serious? You avoid people over ICQ.

People try to bring this up every couple months. ICQ really is not going anywhere. Everyone but newer webmasters seem to know this. If you do not like ICQ, just get something that is compatible with ICQ. Actually that shows how trenched into everything it is. Other companies make sure whatever they release is compatible with ICQ and remains compatible with it and all newer versions.

Early on when the community was not that big (a great deal less people were around than claim they were around back then) people chose to use ICQ. It had a history function and most importantly it allowed both file transfers and allowed people to send offline messages to people. Others came but nobody really added the offline messages feature. Then at one point a company dumped some good money into developing one just for webmasters. It eventually failed before it got traction. Some gave it an honest shot. They had to turn back to ICQ and nobody likes re-adding tons of users to a program. From that point on it would be ICQ forever. At times the only way to find people would be ICQ messages as they were almost out of the industry and did not just give out email addresses.

Dirty Dane 11-12-2009 12:54 AM

Spy wave. :2 cents:

Thurbs 11-12-2009 12:57 AM

maybe im past the getting it curve .. I hate ICQ though.

but I also hate the memory / network connection hog that Skype is too.

ichat :)

dirtymind 11-12-2009 03:54 AM

well it clear wave is not going to be the next tool, i already knew that but still fun to see every one saying something about it.

well guess we have to wait for the next big thing, some day there will be something. lol
