Got data on a 1TB Seagate Barracuda drive?
we just lost an entire solo girl site of edited content on one - and searching the Net i'm not alone. could go at any minute. it's a firmware problem, once the drive is dead though there's no way to deal with the firmware issue.
"Seagate 1TB Barracuda drives are failing at an alarming rate, with users complaining of a plague of such failures spreading across the globe." |
I also have 1 tb seagate drive but with updated firmware.
|
how old is the drive? this problem your talking about is like 6 months or 1 year old not an issue with the newer drives.
personally i still wont touch seagate drives. |

well here's some good news about the epidemic
"There is no data loss associated with this issue, and the data still resides on the drive. But if you are unable to access your data due to this issue, Seagate will provide free data recovery services. Seagate will work with you to expedite a remedy to minimize any disruption to you or your business." drive is just over a year old. |
just over a year old then yea im not surprised your having problems.
Have you tried recovery software to pull the data off ? Quote:

i have a barracuda in my pants

My entire server and renderfarm runs on 5TB's of Seagate Barracuda at Raid 5.
Seems ok to me. |
The Seagate issue is not new, of course that doesn't help people who are not aware of it. As you've discovered, the data can be recovered, so give them a call.
I hope you realise that this time you're lucky - what if it had been a non recoverable mechanical failure? Back up, back up, back up. :2 cents: |

well at least Seagate is owning up to this - they're fixing it for free, 4 or 5 days, a week at most they say to get the drive back.
|
I almost bought one of those last week. Now I'm very glad I didn't!
|
Mutt in the future ALWAYS have a raid set up in your server and this will protect you from this happening again. Also an FYI it's not just seagate, in reality any brand drive can fail for a number of different reasons at anytime. It sucks but it's just the way it is.
:pimp |
if you call seagate they offer a program to help you to get your stuff back. but they charge you. it might work it might not but they say when you call them that their drives are for backing up computer systems only. well that is what they told me bout 1 yr ago. but if that doesnt work you can always crak open the seagate drive and try and put the hd into a computer and pull the info or you can buy an antec encolsure

one of my disks which was barracuda 750gb died a year ago, lost a whole digital life on it.
i will feel reborn when i get it fixed... if i ever do that. |
