People who download games without paying are thieves. Microsoft identified a million thieves and banned them from their network. I say great job to Microsoft.

Too bad we cant do this to tube sites.

fuzebox 11-12-2009 12:28 PM

I saw the banned message when I logged in yesterday, was trying to figure out what was up...

I wouldn't even know where to buy an unmodded xbox here :1orglaugh

mikesinner 11-12-2009 12:29 PM

To bad the whole Internet doesn't work this way.

I pay for games on dvd at the local game store at the mall. I really can't control it if the only games available in this country are pirated.

bronco67 11-12-2009 12:32 PM

All I can say is HAHAHAHAHAHA!

Wow...one million illegal copies? That's 60 million in missing revenue.

brassmonkey 11-12-2009 12:35 PM

really its rape because it marked up over 300%

AaronM 11-12-2009 12:38 PM

Good for them. Since they have all the XBox Live member info, they should press charges against them all while they are at it. :2 cents:

trevesty 11-12-2009 12:38 PM

good riddance.

Or just ban their consoles, thus forcing them to go buy a new one.. more money for them that way.. they don't have to spend money in the courtroom :winkwink:

Putting myself in the shoes of one of the banned.....

I'd switch to another gaming system before I'd buy another one of theirs.

60mil in lost rev. Clearly piracy is a huge problem for them.

Flipping a ban switch is free and fast but doesn't really send a strong message.

Why? Didi you write the code? Did you have to pay employees?
Everything is relatively marked up 300% unless you ho,d the rights to it.
hy dont you ask NATS guys to sell you their script at 33% of its regular value.

Actually, it does.

If you do not pay, you do not play. Don't like it, leave. Or in this case, they did that for you.

You are already costing them revenue. So you taking your ball and going elsewhere to rip something off, or play for free, doesn't cost them a dime. So it is both a good long, and short term, decision.

:2 cents:

Loch 11-12-2009 01:15 PM

For once i will say GOOD for MS!!

Pay the few bucks for the damn game, christ people never learn!

tiger 11-12-2009 02:38 PM

It's about more then just piracy. Modded boxes make it much easier to use cheats. Clearing out the cheaters is something all of their subscribers will love. Cheaters make a lot of legit players cancel their subscriptions.

Jayvis 11-12-2009 02:42 PM

Microsoft should pay me for fixing their damn 360 ELITE so many times. :(

Imortyl Pussycat 11-12-2009 02:55 PM

if only it were this easy to get rid of thieves in our world

If I recall correctly they actually lose money per sale of a console because it costs more to make than its price (maybe not NOW but at least originally). Their intention is to make the money on the games, so if those thieving pieces of shit want to steal games, Microsoft is happy to direct them to Sony.

What would YOU do if you were them?

Count down for Gideon Gallery in 3... 2... 1...

to come in here and tell us the game maker didn't lose any sells on their product even though 1 million+ copies were stolen.

Let us hear his tired drivel about how this practice shouldn't be illegal and that the banned offenders are being unfairly treated or persecuted.

TheDoc 11-12-2009 03:35 PM

If those 1 million people don't turn around and purchase it, MS lost on the deal.

1 million people that won't pay is 1 million people talking good about you vs. 1 million people saying you're a pile of shit now.

And now, if people know MS will kick you off, they may not go buy the xbox at all. So they WILL lose out on that too.

Really stupid move overall... that's why games have expansions, at least get the $50 in the door.

So I can rob a local business if it's making a lot of money? Ok.

These people were moding their XBoxs meaning they probably didnt buy the game or the expansion. They were giving their $5 a month to XBox for the Live subscription. Since XBox, or most gaming systems, do not make much profit on the sale of a system I dont really think they lost much.

I say good for Microsoft

That makes my point above even more... now they don't have the $5 a month, and now the people really have no reason to buy another game. So they lost two times over... again, it was a really stupid move.

They kill it on the consoles, profit wise, they just sell more games and printed dvd, costs far less than a console, so the profits are massive.

You can call up manufacture in China, send your drafts and get cable, dvr, dvd, reader/writer boxes on a custom design, with a tv on it, to sell on the market for like $20 each, including shipping.

Those flat screens we pay $5k-$10k for, they cost like $200.

suesheboy 11-12-2009 05:23 PM

guess what? These will end up on Ebay - tons of them!

d-null 11-12-2009 05:25 PM

I might go out and buy an xbox 360 now, hate online games that are hacked modded or cheated, and at least this shows they are trying to keep things in control.

I guess cable companies should stop trying to prevent illegal cable theft just in case the person might have subscribed at some point in the future. Oh yeah, big movie studios should stop trying to prevent those recording new films with camcorders and putting them on the internet as well. They might not buy another DVD from that company in the future either.

You're example doesn't relate in anyway.

The people purchased an over priced xbox, then they were playing monthly for the online service and they have all purchased many over priced crappy games...

...the pirated part comes from the game, as I was informed.

These people WERE customers, paying customers.. and got cut off. It's really simple, like smash your head into a wall simple.

MS was stupid to doing this.... now the people are gone and so is the income.

That's too much for a stupid game. I got Zelda for a wii a couple of days ago and just noticed I pad $50+taxes for that. That's a serious ripoff, I wouldn't have spend more than $20-$25 if I had seen that in the store..:Oh crap
