Google wave isn't actually released yet, and like anything on the Internet, even Google owned, it takes time to catch on.
Google Wave shouldn't take over Twitter, it's almost a support tool for it. But, you could just make your own Twitter and compete with Twitter using the Wave Technology or even a Facebook like could be made, kind of.
Think about running all your blogs from one spot, dealing with all the comments, ratings, and social input, comments, chatter, etc... AND your emails, all those contacts....all from one location.
Now think about the ability to share those parts with the global conversation in an instant or with your own contacts, instead of sending an email to a subscriber, and getting spam complaints... you share a wave with your subscribed-contacts, which has an embedded signup form in it.
I can ramble on about wave for hours... the technology is amazing.
