Amateur District is an established brand that has been around for years, that is directly associated with well known companies and people such as Cezar Capone, Pulse Distribution and Red Light District, that are also well known names that have good, clean reputations.
As far as the specific situation you are speaking of, the person who runs that board every so often, maybe once every few months has come to me and will ask me to help him sell ad space for his message board or to help someone he knows to get some work, but mostly to get some money because he is in some desperate situation or another. In all he has been in "dire" need of money and come to me to help him sell some quick, discounted ad space at least 3 or 4 times this year alone.
I didn't mind helping the guy out because to be honest he seemed nice enough and I felt bad for him because he kept losing so many advertisers and things suck right now for everyone. So if I could help out, I did.
In this particular case he needed $488. He contacted me on Friday Nov 13th to help him out. I made some calls and couldn't find any takes so to help him out. Either people didn't like his board because it didn't produce or they just weren't buying ad space on boards right now.
So I talked to someone within Amateur District offices and they agreed we would buy it. It was a good deal after all but that the person who was going to pay for it wouldn't be back to do so until the 17th.
The person who runs the boards in question said that was okay but he was desperate and needed some money right now as well. Did I have any other friends who wanted ad space. I made a few more calls for him, but had no luck.
On November 17th I had the guy who owns the boards in question send me an invoice. The people who pay the bills were back in town and I sent it to them. I didn't apparently express the urgency to get this bill paid ASAP so it was pushed back and more important things were dealt with first. The next day our billing person promised they would do it as soon as they could get two seconds. It didn't get done by noon as he had asked so he sent me an enormous number of messages via icq. It was around 93 ICQ messages in all, demanding payment. I will agree that it wasn't right to say the bill would be paid and be one day late doing so, but it's also not unusual to expect a company to spend more than a few hours after getting an invoice to pay it. There are very few established companies that do business that way. Some go as long as 90 days after getting an invoice to pay it. I however stayed on top of them, over and over asking them to pay it because I knew this guy really needed the money.
It was at that time that we were told we had 4 hours to make the payment or else. I called the people in charge and they agreed it just wasn't worth the drama and hassle that we would pay the guy for the pro-rated rate of the 1 day they ran our ad and wash our hands of the whole mess. That no amount of discounted ad space was worth all that mess and drama.
The person who owns the boards then went on what seems like a never ending rant about how he counted on me because all these other people screwed him out of money and that if I was his real friend I would help him find a way to make money really quick to cover his losses, and so on. I don't know why he felt it was my responsibility to bail him out each time but I guess it was my own fault for being to nice and helping him out before.
I quickly reminded him that business is business and the people don't typically want to associate themselves with people who run things in such an unprofessional manner. That he was a nice enough guy and I wished him the best but I really don't have the time nor energy for this.
He then posts inaccurate information on his board saying I had owed him money since the previous Friday, which was not accurate. Instead of responding on those boards I felt it was best to just ignore it and wash my hands of the entire thing. Life is far to short for that kind of crazy shit. LOL
He really is a nice guy and I liked the people at his boards. If you go there you probably seen I used to post helpful tips all the time but I really just couldn't handle his drama all the time. It was always something with him.
I want to deal with people who want to do business ... who want to stay focused and make money. If I wanted a life full of drama then I would just watch E!
