Ronnie is sixty-seven years old. There is (or was) a great audio clip on Youtube of a young Ronnie James Dio angelically singing a doo-wop type of song as a teenager back in the 1950's, and his recording career spans at least as far back as 1958! Best user comment under the clip of the old single on Youtube- "The First in Line".

Dio always had a great sound.

Dirty Lord 11-19-2009 04:35 AM

Loved him with Sabbath.

One of the greatest musical moments of my life happened when I was 16 years old and I was at a club that had about 250 people in it watching a couple of local bands. Dio was in town for big show and they stopped in and did a short set of about 5 songs unannounced. The venue had perfect acoustics and standing 10 feet from him singing Holy Diver was an amazing moment.

Indeed. Such power from a little person...

Riffhard 11-19-2009 07:42 AM

Not only is he one of the greatest Rock singers of all time, but he also invented this:

Even his Wikipedia page says that he didn't invent the Devil's horns. He wasn't even the first to use it in the music biz. But he did popularize it.

tranza 11-19-2009 10:00 AM

I hope he gets better..

Tom_PM 11-19-2009 10:10 AM

He was always locally renowned since he grew up just a few miles south of here.

I think he said in a tv interview that he first saw the "devil horns" from his grandmother, who used it to keep satan away from her kitchen (or somethin like that).

LeRoy 11-19-2009 11:19 AM

Damn that sux. Hope he's gonna be ok

One of my faves growing up.

WebairGerard 11-19-2009 11:32 AM

rayadp05 11-19-2009 12:03 PM

That sucks. I've been a Ronnie James Dio fan for a long time. Started listening to him way back in 1982. I sure hope he pulls through alright.

MaDalton 11-19-2009 12:09 PM

Orgasmics 11-19-2009 01:10 PM

If my memory serves me correctly, I do believe that this person may have sang for Black Sabbath. It is unfortunate that he was hospitalized.

I think we can all sing this, in the spirit of fatfoo:

"Mr. Crowley... Won't you ride the white horse..."

Lemmy is STILL the ugliest man on the face of the earth. He gets lots of pussy though.

I have seen Dio more times live than I have seen anyone, including the last tour he did with Heaven and Hell, AKA Black Sabbath Minus Ozzy, (where I caught one of Toni Iommi's guitar pics). I love this guy. I hope he pulls through.

I saw Ronnie James Dio play at a pizza joint in Dayton, Ohio of all places. They had a small stage and were trying to get '80's bands to play there before the '80's nostalgia wave hit big, and he did a show there. It was fucking surreal to say the least...

CarlosTheGaucho 11-19-2009 03:45 PM

Saw him live with with both - Dio (in Warsaw 2005) and Sabbath aka Heaven and Hell (in Prague 2007) never thought I'll have a chance to see him live with Sabbath.

I would dare to say his voice was at about 95 pct. of his Rainbow days.

Sounded just incredible, he always cared about his voice and never was much into the gallon of whiskey a day routine like many others.

I'm sure he'll be all right.
