My Chinese cousin is very interested in adopting all of those dogs. I will pass this on, thanks!

NINE HUNDRED???

I had no idea they raced so many dogs. Does the track own all of them and house them there?

brassmonkey 11-20-2009 12:21 PM

thats bullshit somebody owned them when they were racing

Greyhounds are awesome dogs, but track rescues need people with time and patience on their hands... most of the racing dogs are not house broken, have no idea how to go up stairs or what appropriate social behaviour should be. On the other hand, they are totally loyal and absolutely loving, so for the right home, a fantastic addition. I have an Italian Greyhound and she's the queen of the world in her own mind, and she has my other two dogs convinced of the same thing.

Thanks for posting that KK, a lot of people have no idea what the dogs are like:winkwink:

Greyhounds make for great pets, but it definitely takes some adjustment time for them coming right from a track to a home. Like Kimmy says, they are absolutely loving and loyal dogs.
I fostered Greyhounds for Greyhound Pets of America and got them ready to go to homes. They are some awesome creatures. In my current situation, I don't have room any additional. I hope all these guys find homes and soon.

Not to derail the thread for the Wisconsin greyhounds, but there are lots of greyhounds available in Florida. This greyhound rescue is possibly losing their facilities because of financial issues.

Greyhounds are great pets..
Sad to hear there are so many closing.

I blame the tubes.

brassmonkey 11-20-2009 01:47 PM

wonder what they taste like just sayin

WeDesignet Lisa 11-20-2009 02:08 PM

they're adorable dogs, but very timid and just like to lay around. Not the kind of dog you want your toddler around (and not because of the toddler's sake!)

boneprone 11-20-2009 02:13 PM

Anyone want to know how I got the name "boneprone"?

I used to own some race dogs up here at the Multnomah Grey Hound Trach.
Had two dogs race that I turned to porn names back in the late 90's

MJ's Classy Lady
and
Boneprone

They are great dogs.
Hard to believe there are 900 dogs homeless from this one track alone. Didnt realize it was so big. Its a dead sport. All the biggest and best tracks have closed. It was a great sport when it lasted.

boneprone 11-20-2009 02:14 PM

back in the day they had a really great adopt a greyhound program as well.
with the downfall of the tracks I really dont see these guys having the outlet to set up adoptions as they once did.

poor dogs, they are most likely abused too. No way that many dogs get the attention and care they need, the org should be investigated.

We had x racing greyhounds when I was growing up, they house train pretty quick.
They are lazy buggers, happy to lay by the fire, you don't need to take them for 5 mile walks every day. My two used to get beaten up by the cat and were great with kids.
